why wanna learn dutch? It's not like a realy interesting language

I'm not sure how much I've bumped this topic up by but nonetheless...

I have had absolutely no experience with Dutch but so far as I know the most intersting (and fun to use!) language is Latin. Mihi nomen est Dust Scout. Caledonia habito. Non est sana Puer.

Hehe, I always wanted to learn Dutch from the time I saw lots of people saying stuff in Dutch in rooms in Emperor on WOL. I would always wonder what they were saying. There used to be so many people from the Netherlands online a while ago. I've gone through an old Dutch dictionary when I was at school, and actually read through it, but it was pretty confusing, and it didn't go too well. I'd still like to try though. ;D :)

Should read

"nomen mihi Dust Scout est. in Caledonia habito. non sum puer sanus"

Unless you've got bad word order, live as the country scotland rather than in it, and refer to yourelf as feminine and in the third person.

Bumpity bumpity bump...

Yes, well, I didn't say I was any good. :-[

Languages were never my thing, I just like Latin because it sounds so nice to say it. I prefer simple phrases; and even then I'm not sure if it's correct.

Globula Nirvis, Torreo Incendo, Gelata Glacia, that kind of thing.

As I said before in "FED2K Awards," Is there ANYTHING Nema doesn't know?

"Since when did Latin care about word order?"

There are some conventions that are not always obeyed, but wherever possible, should be. Things like putting the quantity at the end of a sentence when buying goods, so

"da me uvas centum"

Give me 100 grapes.

So what are the rules of pronunciation? Are they as bad as English? Or are they simpler, lik French or even Spanish?

I think english got an easy system for that.

There are some(very few though) sentences that are way different than norwegian.

I don't like french because it's written so different from the way you speak it(for me it is, maybe not for you)

Nema, was it only in Greek that the word order had to do with the importance of specefic words? Or also Latin?

However, French has stricter rules then English. English has many many different pronouncations...

Dutch may be easier when you speak a German language (not German of Germany, I meant the old word)

hmm... easy, present simple, present continieus, past continieus (i'm not sure about this one), past perfect, i know that there are some more but i don't want to remember them all :O

Yeah, the german they speak in germany is quite different from dutch. Amazingly different.

nah not realy, many germans who have never learned dutch can often quite well understand us.

i'll tell you something different

My father met a farmer in the US who's grandfather came from germany, and thus he knew only a few german words, however when they came to visit us in the netherlands, MY grandfather talked to him, in dutch (Dialect, aka plat proaten ;) ) as he can't even speak normal dutch. However they understood each other remarkably well. I just can't figure it out, with so little knowledge of german, and not even being able to speak german at all, they could communicate with each other very well.

The reason to that is probably that our dialect has close ties to German (as we live very close to the german border)

good story. Well I like dutch better than german because I find it easier to learn. It share words with many languages I know.
