Heya all.

Since the Mod I was working on packed up, and I have long wanted to do a decent mod for RA2, I wondered if there would be any interest in my making a Dune one.

Initailly, units would be those from Emperor, merely recreated and transposed. Buildings and inf will follow. Four initial houses;Atreides, Harkonnen, Ordos, Corrino. Subhouses will follow. Note that I'd plan to make Corrino independent of the Sarduakar - they serve the ruling house, and the premise would be that there isn't one yet.

Maps for all home worlds would be made, as well as dune ones. Weather can be added, to a limited extent (meteor showers, electrical storms, etc).

If anyone is interested, or has any comments, please let me know. Also, if anyone would like to help, I'd need SHP artists, and maybe someone to make some decent cameos. Music may also need to be composed....

heh, i'm interested, that's the least i can say. Why don't you use Emperor music? And i have not realy any further sugestions. Four houses would be cool though.

First off to Gobalopper; thanks for moving my thread, I'm sorry, but don't use the forums much, so wasn't too sure where I ought to put this.... 8)

To the others so far who've answered; thanks for your initial feed back. I'd need some new music for Corrino. The sort of style I had in mind was grandiose and powerful, and yet fallen from grace and out of date.... I hope that makes a bit of sense.

Richese is there as there are no longer very powerful, but are still more interesting to do than smugglers (I reckon).I'd like some industrially-oriented stuff to do. Also Ordos has kinda assumed the Smugglers' role from the original dunes somewhat.

If you need music, then your best chance would be DjCid, he makes music for mods and such, you can download it from his sig. I hope you are successful in making your mod. :)

Hey Cool! Thanks guys! And thanks to Caid too... ;)

I'll start work on a couple of units, and will put up pix soon. I have np problem doing voxels and rules editing myself; I am fairly accomplished. I do need some help with sounds/sound files, and maybe graphical concept art/ ideas/ background? I say Background because I want to keep the Westwood feel to the game, but not do too much (anything) that is too contrary to the Duniverse.

To this end I may ask for some initial House Corrino ideas along with my next post.... I already know about the KH emperor mod, but I want to do something less, well 'Sarduakar-ey', if you see what I mean...? So that they are tactically different to the other three houses. Graphics, music and names will complete the rest of the House's 'feel', along with some background.

Thanks for all your comments, please keep 'em coming - I rather feel I may need some encouragement for such a big Project!!

Take Sardaukar away from the Emperor?

They *belong* to the Emperor!

Anywayz, as for subhouses I think you should do them all as separate houses. It would require a lot more work but I'm sure we could manage it.

You can have a maximum of 10 sides:

Great Britain

USA

South Korea

France

Germany

Yuri

Russia

Cuba

Libya

Iraq

I suggest:

Atreides

Harkonnen

Ordos

Corrino

Hagal

Bene Gesserait (sp?)(What do you get when you cross Tanya and a Yuri...)

Ecaz

Moritani

Vernius (Ix)

Richese

Guild would be available to all (the chrono tech) because they were not really the fighting type and it would be fair anyway

Sards belong to the Emperor

Fremen belong to Atreides

Okay. First up; That many full houses from the word go is so much work, it makes my eyes water!

Secondly, as I have previously mentioned, there is no Emperor to speak of any more, hence the fight between the major houses for control of Dune. Corrino will have lost much of it former glory and the prestige that comes with being the ruling house, and will be as keen to have dune back as are the other houses. The Sarduakar served the ruling house, and as yet none have assumed this position, they will help those that they consider to be the strongest, in hope of them winning and looking favourably on the Sarduakar in return, now that the old Emperor is dead, and a new one in place.

Thirdly, this is mainly a multiplayer mod, and so I think that the story can be waivered very slightly in terms of the minor Houses so that the players can make their own alliances during the game.

In the far future, if all goes well, I may do single player missions. In this case the player will have a choice of two or three sub houses with which to ally from, depending on the mission tree.

I ought to mention here that the mod is for *Yuri's Revenge* & Red Alert 2.... :-[ This gives more terrain options, and the possibility of A2A, even if in a limited way... :-

When you mean a2a do you mean air to air?

Anyway, the Emperor (Corrino) was a Sardaukar so taking them away from Corrino would be ridiculus. Corrino are nothing without Sardaukar and vise versa

how the f**k did u do that! :O i never expirienced in ra2 texturing it looks actully more hard then doin emperor.. (not that emp texturing is hard ;D)

Hehehe! Thanks Wolf!

This is a *very* rough unit though... I normally like to spend two days on a simple VXL, longer on the animated ones... I haven't even really smoothed any textures on this one. Mind you, Dune is easier to do than historical stuff... ::)

And sorry, to Dunenewt - yes, A2A is Air-to-air. (thinks mainly of Defense platforms, and aa Mines)

NaMpIgAi; I was thinking grey uniforms with purple cloaks. Insignia maybe gold?

I'm in two minds about including the Bene Gesserit. There will already be a lot of better-than-normal-units, and I don't really want players to sideline basic troops in favour of commandoes... And Mind-control in RA2 is kinda sucky, IMHO.

For the Deviator however, this presents problems. I was just going to do a gas-canister warhead. If Corrino are gonna play, Ordos need that little bit of help for anti-inf work. Giving this role to the deviator would be acceptable I reckon. I could use the YR Chaos Drone gas though... dunno.

I have updated it (the Sonic Tank), so that it looks less horrendous... Although the Emperor one has a square back on the track housings, I may cut them again... I'll see.

Anyway. Using the SHPs from Dune2000 isn't what I had in mind - The colours will be different, Corrino & Subhouses all still need to be done... And the infantry! Don't get me started on those. I want to be able to distingusish them by means other than some sort of coloured sixties-jumpsuit (Star-Trek anyone? ::))
