I am so against the Euro spreading to England because it would make it so cheap and crappy, well crappier. It is ok in mainland Europe because they do alot more moving around so a single currency is a very good idea for them but not here in England it is just a bad idea

The silly thing is we pay the europeans a lot to build them roads and stuff, while we have worse transport than any of them, and because we are supposeddly 'richer', we are taxed by europe more, and get less, even in areas in which we are lacking.

Especially since we have far more taxation than others, and so are being far more responsible than the rest of Europe.

Hello,

I am against the Euro,

Here (In the netherlands) alot of people don't like the euro because the prices Went UP by the minute,

**

Example: I saw a car (brand new) in the garage, it was for sale: 27.000 gulden (1 Euro = 2.2124 gulden) and when the euro came among us, I saw the same car Some time later, And this time it was for sale for 17.000 euro's (that's about 37400 gulden). I got more, All the products in the shops Went UP by 10%.

It's crazy here, if you earn a good living, let's say 80.000 euro's each Year, you lose 45% of each euro you make to Taxes (Although there are alot of ways to avoid that). And we already had high taxes here, and now it's Even higher because of the EURO.

Actually I think the euro is a good idea. It seems so stupid of changing money just because you're in Germany now instead of in Denmark or something like this. I think Europe should unite, be as one. Oh yes, I will also see higher prices when we change currency here sometimes during the coming 5 years. But think positive, it will be cheaper in the future, maybe not over a year, but it will. Actually, EU is a way of bringing people together. Some crazy friend of mine said it was a conspiracy, that some group or some powerfull agency would control the whole of Europe under one currency, or something like that. Although I am a right-wing-politics-guy (RWPG), I still think Europe should unite as one. Bad idea? Well, Edric O sure can tell his :P.

The higher prices are a pain, I'll agree with that, but that is to blame to the shop keepers.

I am for the euro. It's brand new, so naturally things don't work out well. Like the tax thing in England.

i think it's fine.. some prices are higher true... few are lower... but it is indeed the first step to europian union.. where i too strive for

As long as the EU focuses on general policies and not micro policies it's okay with me.

And I believe the EU will be able to put up more of a voice then a collection of small countries.

By the way, am I the only one that have heard about Europe changing it's name? I read in the newspaper some weeks ago, where they had suggested to change name to United States of Europe (USE) or United Europe or something like that. And besides that, there were also a suggestion of having a one European President, one man that represents EU, very much like the U.S. Have anyone else but me heard/read about this?

The Euro is great for europe!!

Finally Governments can't say anything about the interest rate. We all should be happy about the euro.

Imagine holland has their guilder. And the economy is going a bit bad (like it is now), then the government would put pressure on the Dutch National Bank to decrease the interest. We get the same shit as in America, interest 1.25%, lol.

They don't have the interest weapon anymore, but europe does...

Further more, although in Holland it's going a bit worse with the economy now, we did not get much inflation at all, thanks to the euro :)

Maybe prices went up, but u will see, the euro is a blessing for all europeans. England knows it too, and eventually they will also take the euro for sure.

U all should see it from economic site, go to a Economic professor teaching on University and they would all tell u that we were lucky to participate.

Eric, are you still doing highschool or something?

What u are telling about the taxes is totally stupid.

If you earned 150.000 guilders in a year, u had to pay 52% taxes over the biggest part of that.

Now, instead of 150.000 guilders u earn like 70.000 euro's and still pay 52% taxes over that.

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE >:(

The taxes did not go up ::)

(let's see what the americans say...)

I'm anti-euro. In the way the economy is being run, it would be bad for most countries.

LOL, another nitwitt about the euro, did u study economy?

Why would it be bad for the economy, tell me ???

It will be a long time I think until England endorses the euro simply as the majority of the public will not support it. I am very much against the euro.

Why? In Gods Name WHY???

Does anybody know here on these board the MAIN reason why Europian Union started??

The MAIN reason, not some silly side effects, or results comming out of that?

I won't pretend I know much of anything about the Euro or the EU in general, but I will say that you have to give it a chance before you pass judgement on it.

ANY major economic change means prices go up in the short term. It happened a couple years ago in my province with the market de-regulation of utilities, and prices skyrocketed. People were rightfully upset over the huge jump in their energy bills. But you have to look to the future, plan ahead, and try to see the big picture. Now the prices have come down. I think they're even lower, now than when they were regulated by the government. Another province did it last week...
