DjCiD
cause from way in the back it looks like a Big Red Book ;D
NeoDevilbane
It's like a compendium of everything that is deemed relevant in modern-day Dune of all the religions we've got today - somehow everyone managed to agree on one religion.- Neo
DjCiD
i guess it could happen in 25,000 years ;D

Anathema
Tleilaxu live their lives by the OC bible. ITO (in THEIR opinion) outsiders (powindah) are not fanatic enough.
Caid Ivik
With "Orange" they would mean Orange Order from Ireland. Maybe Herbert tought they will become most powerful protestantic church and O.C. Bible was a compromise between Roman Catholics and Orangists. TMA_1
I like how the D.E. explains it. also read the appendixes at the end of the novel Dune.
AlteaDeo
Geez, in the history, Orange Order was such a racist things (well, I mostly know the Orange Order of Canada...) ... Just hoping that herbert wasn't associated with them...
Dude_Doc
I'm sure Herbert was not a racist, he is taking words and texts from the arabic culture, I don't think he would do that if he were a racist, he would then think the arabic language was "ugly" and stuff... On the other side, he took the arabic words because the arab world was like "outside", and he felt many did not know how to pronounce the words and stuff... depends on which perspective you're looking from... TMA_1
herbert was an athiest. you should then realize he wouldnt be apart of a strict religious order.lol
Anathema
The OC bible was the result of a bunch of representatives from almost all religions write a new book together. I have not a clue why it is "orange", unless it really is orange (colour).
nemafakei
Anyone heard of the Orangemen (Orange Order, not racist, or canadian) of (Northern) Ireland? They are an anglican (protestant) church who often go marching around Belfast, notably down the Catholic area called Garvachy road.
AlteaDeo
Well, the Orangemen of Canada are a kind of district of the Orangemen of Ireland... Those who, seems from my point of view, too much imperialist, trying to make protestant church more powerful by taking down christianism..oh geez, I feel like I may be flamed by some people... Dunno who, but I can feel it with those kind of commentaries...

NeoDevilbane
I think Herbert was a hippy, personally. :) All this talk about drugs that make you see through time and shit, make sense of the universe, see your destiny, etc.. Spice Melange? Bah, he's basically describing speed, crank, coke, meth, what-have-you. The guy was probably coked/shermed out of his mind when he wrote Dune in the 60s.- Neo
Emperor Harkonnen
god damn hippi. I hate 'em. drugs are bad, mkay
Caid Ivik
He was under pressure of his era. East culture infiltration is explained in ecumenical abominations like "mahayana christianism", "budd-islamism" or "zensunnitism". Spice is an ultimate drug. And order in Empire is provided by intimidating nuclear arsenals of Landsraad families.
