DSL vs. Cable: Battle for the Broadband

good vs evil, communism vs capitalism, napster vs the music industry, etc....all classic battles right? but now a new fight is on. Which one is better: DSL or Cable? (mention any others except fiber optics or T-1)

Alas, I cannot compare.  I have but a faulty 56k connection.  Which I hate. And I don't have cable TV.   :P

Cable? dsl is way better, the cable users in your area the slower it gos but dsl is not like that, satilitte is the best.

who care if sattilitte is spelled wrong.

Havn't got a sattelite connection. I'v heard that a sat. up- and downlink for net traffic is great though.

For most places DSL is about the same as cable but with DSL the farther away from the main station/router you are the slower your connection is.

I don't think the standards for cable and DSL speeds are the same where ever you are, are they ? Here in the Netherlands the download speed for DSL is ten times the download speed of cable. Upload speed is varriable, depending on your subscription. ( 125 per sec. or 256 ) The distances from the "severs" arn't that big. ( We are a small country :) ) So overall, DSL is faster then cable.

( this is just for my country, and we have only one sort of DSL subscription to subscribe to, just ADSL. Some of the companies however have "private nets" that have other forms of DSL and fiber optics but that's not for most of the "normal" subscribers. )

Well Canada has a lot more space then most countries so DSL doesn't always work best in all cases. :)

At least where I live the cable isn't oversold so you don't have too many people on the same node using all the bandwidth.
