ow..my head still hurts...

I think of Dune as the science-fiction equivalent to Lord of the Rings.  They're both to be enjoyed in their own genre.  But you can't really compare them to each other...that's like comparing an elephant to the sun, or something like that.  They're the best in their own fields, and are sorta complementary to each other...I think.

i think the Dune movie is good, it's old, but is still excellent. I just think the major flaw was that u can't fit DUNE into a movie, miniseries is the go :)

I never read LOTR. Not much of a fantasy fan. more of a sci-fi fan. The only think Dune is equel to there is the Foundation series. I am only one book one but it is good so far. Dune is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy. More sci-fi mind you, but with touches of fantasy in there.

Thank you all of you Dungeons and Dragons freaks for clearing that up about LOTR and Dune being the best in their fields and not trying to compare them to one another.

*cuts his eyes at trh5000 and then narrows them grumbles something unaudiable under his breath then in a low steady voice says "O.k." then lets out a long breath of air followed by a comment about hobbits, orcs and goblins.*

"girls hate d&D freaks"

That's hardly a reason. A better reason is that Rolemaster (for example) is better.

The Hobbit was the first full book I can ever remember. Curious, since my estimate was that I read it when at around 4 years of age.
