Aline the story line for me

Ok, I'm still reading the books (on "Children of Dune" right now), and my question is does Emperor Battle for Dune fall into the story line of the books(if it does at all), and if so is it before the book Dune, during, or after all of the books.

Right, the game is just a game that uses the same things as the book ( Duke, Arrakis, Duke, Baron etc.... ) but it doesn't fit in at all to the books. Until next post, Vilgent.

Would have been better if WW situated their games in the actual stories. Like being a general for the fremen jihad or leading the Harkonnen attack on Arrakeen and stuff.

Well I'm shure no one would want THEIR planets, but I'm shure a few hundred houses (The Ixieans, The Fremen, The Sarducar) would want to rid the universe of them ;)

I would like to see a fourth house in the game. maybe the Grumman (Im not sure if they're a house or not but they seem strong enough to make a good house) and insnt House Ix really House Verinus? (sp?)

True. Emperor states "House of Ix" and the house of Ix is house Vernius.

Actually, according to the Official WestWood FAQ, it takes place 200 years before the books. That may explain a lot. :)

That doesn't sound right. In Dune 2000 you have Duke Leto and Shaddam IV, so that is just before the first novel. That's were Dune 2000 deviates from the story, and Emperor is later when there has just been a spice war between 3 houses.

EarthNuker has a neat idea. it would be cool if they made a game (or a mod...hint hint ;)) that was based on the battles in the books, on many different planets. I.e:

-The Ginazi and Swordmaster trainees vs. Grumman soldiers

-H. Moritani vs. H. Ecaz

-H. Atreides vs. H. Harkonnen

-H. Vernius vs. Suboid rebels, Sardaukar, etc.

-Paul's Jihad

-The Butlerian Jihad

That would be sweet! Of course, a game like that would be huge.

I thought of the idea of making a mod for that kind of thing. A harkonnen campaign where you lead a terror campaign against the fremen, then finally lead the attack on Arrakeen. Then a Corrino campaign as part 2 where you lead the Sardaukar in an attempt to eradicate the fremen. Then finally a Fremen campaign where you lead the fremen in a campaing that eventually takes you to Arrakeen.

But I don't have time for that kind of work and most of it is still unknown to me. Plus of course, Emperor isn't exactly populair these days anymore :'(.

DII had Frederic IV, not Shaddam. The history was that Fred assassinated his brother (hm.... not so original) - and tht became the root of the differences.

Because of this, we can guess that different events happened (Three houses were instructed to fight on arrakis, not just one, Achillus became Duke after Leto, and presumably paul was not named paul, Rakan became Baron after Vladimir...).

A jihad is a specefic rebellion against a specefic thing. It don't have to be religious

IIRC, the word "Jihad" literally means "a great injustice", but is commonly used to mean a crusade - religious or otherwise.

Actually, I think that was Shaddam I. I recall seeing a site where they were outlining the story for Dune2 and Dune2k, and they said his name was "Frederick IV (Shaddam I)".
