Right. I'm this terrible E:BfD n00b. Hi. I'm not a computer n00b though.

I got this nice & shiny Athlon1300 with a brand new Geforce 4 Ti4200 in it.

I always wanted to play E:BfD but my previous card (a Kyro) didn't really allow

this kind of graphical mayhem. My Geforce will. At least that's what I thought when I

bought this game...

What irritates the living * out of me, is that the speed of the game changes according

to where my camera focus is at. In other words: units move FASTER when zoomed in, slower when

zoomed out, they move slower when I look at them and terribly fast is I look at an empty

piece of desert (I mean the sandy thing, not the tasty one. How many "s"'s go in that?)

I know I could put my detail level lower and stuff, but that's besides my point. Even if

I would lower my detail settings, there would still be this behaviour, though less obvious.

While browsing through these boards, I noticed no-one seems to have the same trouble (or at

least no-one complains). Am I doing something wrong? Is this a "feature" rather than a "bug"?

Help me plz. The slowing down and the speeding up take away a lot of the fun of this game...

No one complains here, because we have a tech forum ;)Anyway, the problem doesn't seem to be one if you ask me, altthough it depends on how slow things get.Obviously when you zoom out, there's a lot more detail to cover and processing to do for your video card and processor. When you zoom in, less drawing and obviously faster processing.Try turning shadows off, you'll see a big improvemnt and it won't harm the detail level that much..[Edit: btw, it's not a n00b question.]

try changing your grfx settings to low... that may solve the problem. it did for me when i had the problem. ;D

ur best bet is to reinstall ur game and also try downloading some of the patches :)

Game IS patched to version 1.09

Sorry 'bout that

They slow down. Period. That IS a problem.

Ever played Earth2150? Warcraft3? Don't slow down.

My comp should be able to play the damn game with altering detail level

I appreciate your help guys. But i refuse to lower my detail settings.

I'll return the game to the store if this can't be fixed :(

well, the details really dont matter...it's the gameplay. I use to be like that, obesessed with detail, but i'd rather play the game properly and have fun then try and notice details that i'm usually not even noticing ne ways...

Well, you got a point there, Desert_Eagle.

Nevertheless, I feel it was rather a feeble call to make from WW.

When an FPS game has an internal system which allows it to run

as fast as the processor and videocard let it, that's ok.

When an RTS game does the same, I would call it a rather weakly

programmed game. I couldn't do better though :)

It would've been nicer if WW had made the engine work with a timer, so the game had a constant speed instead of an engine which works as fast as it can...

Agreed?

I doubt you can do that - after all, the game is fine, it's just that your computer isn't fast enough for you.

I returned like 10 games because they didn't work, but that may be my EB store policy. Besides, you can 'say' the game is faulty and they wouldn't know till they test it, which they probably won't. Besides, it isn't bad or illegal to do that - just get a game the same price and off you go.

One time I had to return a game to EB. I didn't want to until I had my virus scanner pop up after installing it saying a virus had been detected. Now you know why you never buy used games that were returned to EB.

my friend rents a dvd from blockbuster. watchs it. Then scratchs it like mad till it wont work. Then he takes it back and says it never worked in the first place. So they let him rent another DVD for free......its mad....

You can't infect CD's with a virus. So returned games at EB (whatever that is), aren't more likely to have a virus than new games. Anyway, I happen to know the guy who runs the store. So I returned it. Pitty.

And again: It is NOT the fact that my comp is not fast enough. If mine isn't, no-ones is. And that would be a stupid thing to do from WW. (But then again, that seems to happen quite often :P )

wzzrd.

The same thing happens to me too and its not a problem for me. i.e. the game speeds up by about 1.5x.

Basically: more graphics >> more processing power needed >> slower output.

When I play the game, i have the view fully zoomed out at all times.

And unless u sit there zooming in and out every 5 seconds, there shouldn't be any problem at all. Judging from the power of your PC, your game would be running at least twice as smooth as mine anyway - I only have a Duron 650mhz CPU with a 32mb video card and 128MB RAM.

Very true. And that is exactly why they should have made the game relate it's speed to an internal clock rather than to the power of your CPU/GPU. Silly ass WW :P

I would say accept the fact that new games will require more of the system being played on..

No, you still don't understand: what I meant was that ALTHOUGH the game might do more FPS with an empty camera-focus than with a zillion units on-screen, the speed of the game should remain the same.
