Witchcraft and the Media

Has anyone noticed witchcraft related shows are gaining in popularity?  Angel, Buffy, Charmed, etc.  Do you think they accurately portray witches and witchcraft in general?  What are your thoughts on this trend?

Buffy half-naked? She is only shown as "normal" teenager :).

In series as you mention witchcraft is shown ar as something extremaly evil or as something good. Willow in Buffy was good witch and most of 'paranormal beings' was evil...only Angel but he wasn`t witch anyway. For me witchcraft is something beetwen. People are practise this are quite normal, only those who do it in the name of satan are evil. Witchcraft isn`t good or evil cos it depends on person and group in with they practise. Some people believe in this, some do it only for fun. Some believe they do it for doing good on the world.

I think media sometimes exaggarate with this.

But in Angel I think they are trying show it in the more "adult" way that they shew it in Buffy.

I must say i think the funniest Buffy i saw (this season) was when she was invisible and over at Spikes and that Xanderdue walkins on Spike doing pushups in bed (well thats how explained it  :P)

I've not seen much, but what I have seen of this Buffy thing seemed to be rather mythologically inaccurate.

Witchcraft is normally portrayed as something completely normal and ok.  I think that it is ok to watch something like that, but not to do something like that.  I mean, if I watch Charmed one night, it's not like I'm going to become gothic and worship the Devil.  Not that I am saying all witchs worship the Devil, because I don't know whether they all do or not.  I'm not the best authority on that.  Anyway, so it's ok, I guess, as long as it doesn't rule our lives.

It is just a show, alot of people is picky about Series.

Next month they like "Jerry Springer" next day they like

"Profiler" next day they like "Band of brothers" etc etc

I hate Buffy the Vampire slayer. Its one of those "typical" action series.

Well anyone who's ever researched Wicca and modern witchcraft/paganism will tell you straight up that shows like Charmed and Buffy are completely fictional.  In the Middle-ages witches might *have* had supernatural powers and vampires might *have* walked the earth, but modern witchcraft is, like most religions, based on faith or belief.  At least from what I've seen anyway.  I think though that places like Witchvox.com and a few other sites have reviews on Buffy etc.

At first I though that Buffy is childish, this stuff about vampires and monsters...but now I think it wasn`t bad, there was a lot of action and Angel was better. BUt I didn`t watch it to last part.

Witchcraft is now true something like religion. But is nothing something like devil worhippers community, most of witches aren`t "evil", they don`t cast spells to kill somebody (its more santeria or voodoo). Most of them practise old rituals connected with Earth cult and nature. Of course like in every religion group like this, they are group that think they have power and can use it to make bad things, to have control. But it depends on people.

I hate chick flicks and the chick shows that they almost always show on WB. Sci-fi, History, and comedy central hold my heart as well as Cartoon network. Is buffy any good?

www.religioustolerance.com is a good place to learn about Wicca.  Personally I feel the media is pretty polarized in showing the more fantastic-ized versions of witchcraft.  Bunch of Wiccans praying to the Godess or the Horned God?  Nope, Wiccans blowing up demons is what is on the WB.

whoa ordos I thought you were a christian.lol Not that you cant be "tolerant" of other religions and be a christian. Frankly though there shouldnt be a need for sites about tolerance. I dont bring up the issue with people I know. They all know my views. Frankly the wiccan religion is very new. It stems from ancient european religions. It is not really a religion inanofitself. Most people I know "worship" in that religion for spite. pissing off their parents.lol Its a rather dull attempt at trying to be different in society. Everybody wants to be against the grain. By doing this they form their own groups and are hypocrites of themselves. Why push tolerance in other people's faces? its their choice and no bandage of good will can take away an evil heart. People will be evil. It is the nature of things. If you disagree well to each his own.
