Fed2k PRP board gains notoriety?

"Wolf", you see, is a word of German origin.

Actually it's a perfectly cromulent Indo-European word, found in many I.-E. languages like Avestan (vəhrka) Sanskrit (vŗkas), Greek (λύκος), Latin (lupus), Lithuanian (vilkas), Polish (wilk) and Russian (волк).

I didn't know that. I thought it was just a Germanic root. How can lupus be a cognate of wolf?

Considering the bias of the left-leaning media and the rampant Obamania that existed, I found the counterbalance provided by Beck and his ilk to be rather refreshing.  As far as him whipping people into hysteria, he never had that affect on me.  I simply grew bored with the same old rhetoric and impassioned tears.

Heh. American media isn't "left-leaning", Hwi. A better description would be "not sufficiently right-leaning" for your tastes. What passes for "left-wing" bias in American conservative circles (if it's true that it exists at all) would be considered right-wing bias in Europe and most other places.

wlkwo => wlpo => wolf, wulf, ulfr, ulv              (germanic)

wlpo => lupo => lupus, loup, lup, lobo      (romance)

wlkwo => lukwo => lycos                              (greek)

wlkwo => blaidd, blyth, bleiz, faol = fw'el          (celtic)

wlkwo => vilk, vlk, volk, vulk, vuk, wilk            (slavic)

wlkwo => vargr, varg, vR^ika, farkas, gorg

Isn't it amazing the diversity of forms that evolution can create? ;)

Ah, I see. wlpo => lupo. That's a kind of change I was not thinking about. I just assumed that any cognate of "wolf" must begin with wu, wo, vu, vo, bu, bo. Thanks for letting me know. :)

What about that last line, then? Vargr, varg, farkas, gorg... what languages have those words?

Fair enough.  If you
