exatreide
Yes I know we have all talked about it, but I stumbled upon this rather detailed and well written information, and just from skimming it pretty in depth about Herbert himself http://moongadget.com/origins/dune.html
gunner154
I've encountered this website a couple of years back, though I never managed to get about reading it completely from top to bottom :-[
Egeides
I think it is the best written piece about Dune out there (that I've passed by). And it is actually about SW, if this tells anything ;)
Dunenewt
Mahdi wrote a good article about this as well.
gunner154
Yeah, I found the link exatreides put up when I was trying to look for Mahdi's article but didn't think about searching Fed2k itself.
MrFlibble
The guy who did this study deserves a definite A+ :) I'd prefer more references to sources though, especially when it comes to facts from Frank's biography.
Khan
The one thing I'd say about the article is that it seems to create a point, that Star Wars took a lot of ideas from Dune, and then seems to take away the poignancy of that concept. It's not a new concept in English Literature by any means, Thomas Dequincey wrote about in in the Palimpsest in fact. But it seems a tad obsessive to me to go to such lengths to prove that it takes ideas from Dune when contemporary influence is such an accepted and common occurrence in art. Mahdi
Mahdi did not write a good article on this. Mahdi wrote a piss-poor, absolutely horrid article on this that should be taken off the site.
