fan maps(why we keep playing on fisher only?)

i have download some fan-made maps. ive tried about 40maps I guess. sometimes it very interesting when we would play 4times on fisher, one time we play new maps for fun. But unfortuntly I never enjoyed fan maps in online.

well. FEW clan made 3maps. they are really unique(minotaur deathzone, gun platium)n balanced(pro fightclub)

and tribute to EBFD is best fan maps to enjoy 8ppl maps I guess.well I sick n tired of enginner but just in this map engineer need. I was happy to see this map coz all guys cant say anything on this map "wtf enginner?" ;D but no chance to play.

and trash crash...when I first time saw this map. wtf...ehhe. Its really annoying too small base. but we can try once in a week there.

anyway we seem to known all how to play on fisher. when we really feel we kick fisher ass, we can have fun on new maps. I trying show ppl new fan maps when I host. :D

Hey Pearl, there was a thread about this a while ago where the community debated the pro's and con's of the fan made maps, I like using them once in a while, for a change. But not too many people use them that play online. However, Whistler, Crysknife, and I have ALL the fan maps from D2K installed on our machines, so if we are in a game sometime, we would be glad to play on any map you want.

Trash crash is one big mess. So thats good. Its a different kind of map, altogether. Unique is not something I can say to many of those maps online.

Although Fishers is a great balanced map with different strategies for a wide range of house/partner/rock combinations, I'd still like to try some different maps for a little variety.

If everyone wanted, I could post a different map each week on the online page of what we want to try that week.  I doubt we'll find a lot of maps that are as balanced as Fishers but even if we found 2 or 3, it would be nice to have a little variety.

RA do you know if its possible for your server to force a download like WOL would? That way you could slowly release all the maps to the people playing in patch form...

Well, like I've said, I got them all, so does Whistler and my kid. so here's my 2 cents. Start with any map by Guns, they are well thought out, and fun.

ANY map by Duke Davis is well made, you know, the ramp tiles are where the ramps are, etc. although some of them have a lot of objects and detail so look at them carefully when choosing for online play or the result will be SLOW games, even on fast connections with fast 'Puters. Who knows, maybe on a new map I won't get killed so quick,  :P

Ohh, and if your looking for MAYHEM try Kalony's map,or Mt. Idaho.  LOL.

RA do you know if its possible for your server to force a download like WOL would? That way you could slowly release all the maps to the people playing in patch form...

Funny you should mention that.  I've been thinking about it and I know how it could be done, I'm just not certain about the installer part.  I need to go to Wol and record the server messages for starting the download.  Once I have that, I'm 99% certain I could trigger the download.  The only part I'm not certain about is the installer and how it's invoked.

If it's just an exe that the game runs before exiting, it should be easy to write an application that just extracts some maps to the correct directory.

yea i agree, fishers is great, but unlike some other maps abandoned city etc

theres a few things that arent there,dust bowls(ordos love these/well i do heh), high rock sniper/inf cover in the field(not just low rock)

it would be nice to see these things getting used, so yep im up for a few other maps as well,

i have the 5 offcial map packs installed as well,  but no fan maps--not a fan?,  maybe can you give me a link to a few good ones? cheerz..

doesnt mean i will be playing on them with  you though, until i can get ebfd to join that is..

I have about 20 of the maps installed. I'm not sure exactly which ones, but I'm up for new maps. I think you me and ra even played a couple games on the new maps.

I think it was just an exe that ran after downloading... Then it extracted the new files, which I think was another .rfh file...

im with most ppl have experianced how fisher balanced n some situation long time ago.

you just care to play on just one map? then you play only on fisher(wow good balaced) when u host. it is none my busyness . But dont mess up my post. i never said fisher is not good map. i just want to play on new maps sometimes.

One thing eid said is right...fisher plains do lack dust bowls. Which could offer some new tactics to the ordos players.

Hmm dustbowls would just create bottlenecks for Hark and atr while allowing ordos units to fly over it.. could be more tactical... but maybe slightly unfair... Fishers is know for its abundance of Fair play and thats why people love it.

I mean what you are saying is that if you saw a naked woman on a bed and you didnt like the color of the sheets you would be upset cause the sheets werent the color you wanted.

well of course there is a desire... i made 3 maps myself..... but there is just something about fishers.... its like coca-cola classic.

I am not saying Fishers is bad or wrong or anything, I agree it is one of the best maps, no it is the best map...

But occassionally I would like to play on another similar map, thats all. Ideally I would like veriations of fishers, and some of the more uique maps like trash crash, and the one where you can only reach the spice using air units (its all below you and all bsaes are raised) it makes for different kind of play. But thats me, and its nothing new (my desire - well documented here, me thinks).  :)
