Best WWII and Sci-Fi RTS game

I want to buy a RTS based on WWII, but I notice that theres a big variety.

Best WW2 strategy is Sudden Strike. This is without discussion. Of sci-fi ones, very good is Total Annihilation (many variable units), also original Dark Reign wasn't so bad, had perfect AI. Of the newer ones, take Earth 2150 or Mechcommanders, hard to find something else good now, as things like Ground Control or Perimeter weren't what we expected.

Yeah that's a great game as well. Um, for WW2 you could try Axis and Allies.

Close Combat is always a good game.

Close Combat a bridge too far was god for it's time. A bit out of date graphics rigth now, but I think they came out with newer ones.

I don't doubt that I've mentioned it before, ut it's topical, so I'll mention it again:  Axis and Allies (The new RTS from Atari).  Great stuff.  And similar to Generals in several respects, but still quite different.  Overall, I would recomend it. http://www.atari.com/axisandallies/us/flash/index.php

For a good Sci-Fi rts you should get Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War. Can't belevie noone has mentioned it here yet.

The basic style of gameplay is similar, and the graphics are similar (though better), aside from that, it's a quite a bit different.

Haegemonia is a great game, but not as good as Homeworld 2, Dark Reign 2 was ok but the first one was better.

Dark Reign 2 is terrible. Perimeter's not a bad little scifi RTS.

Strategic command, Operation Barberossa, lots of good ol games.

And Caid that is one of my all time fav RTS games, starship troopers...i gave everyone there a name from fed2k! was gonna write a fic about it...but then my comp crashed....maybe i should download it again..

Yeah definitely get the original, there's no major thing that was better about the original, it just had a little something that made it better.

Download them... Sudden Strike is worth it, altough it needs training.

If they have demos, try the demos. Whichever you like the best, buy. :)
