Searching for Bobby Fischer is on right now.

Good movie, although they definately cleaned up the real Fischer for it.  No raving anti-semetic/racist diatraibes.

Is he in jail yet?  I haven't heard of anythign about him since they found and arrested him.

My friend said that Life Aquatic is well directed, but that it is missing something. He actually figures it is because the director didnt have the help of his co writer.

I dont see how Rushmore could be topped to be perfectly honest.lol

If comparing it to rushmore, Rushmore is much better in my opinion.  But i felt that Rushmore was more set up to be a comedy, where this movie wasnt.  Life aquatic is a mix of an attempt at having an actual story, and just making absolutely no sense, to be funny.

The Symbology of Blue Velvet

I just saw blue velvet last night, and it is a shocking film to say the least. It is one of the more abstract and symbolic of films I ahve seen in a while, and it talks about something that is pretty interesting. The fact that behind the pretty and innocent trappings of suburbia, that in "small town america" there is much sickness and evil that is not talked about. It shows that America is not perfect, even in the places where it paints that sort of picture. I loved this film because it does not play down to the audiance. It also is a great use of symbolism, something that isnt used very effectively in film lately. Like a work of art, David Lynch uses abstract visuals and dialog in order to show a subject that some might feel uncomfortable to approch. It was indeed emotional to watch, and very enlightening as well as heart breaking in many ways.

Not only this, but the directing and cinematography, as well as the sound direction were awesome! the dialog too and acting was supurb. I have not seen many david lynch films, but this film really showed me his artistic merit and quality like no other david lynch film has.

Have any of you seen this flick? and if so what did you guys think of it? all opinions are wanted. :)

I have seen "Lost Highway", "Sailor & Lula", "Mulholland drive" and of course "Dune".

Long live the fighters!

Is it Frank Herbert on the above picture?

Hero

Seen it monday night, and was angry at myself for spending 4 pay per view bucks on this joke.

The story is set in china, about 4 assains trying to kill an emperor, bla bla bla. Good scenery but the diolouge was horrible, maybe it was lost in translation. But what the hell does learning how someone writes have anything to do with swordplay? Then there is the actual swordplay, which is more flying then actual fighting. I like a little of that, but its to the point where its more balet then fighting. To the point of being gay and retarded,

how did this movie get so many stars and critic recomendations? it put my dad to sleep, and 9/10s of the way through i just went to play fable.

Well since someone did theirs on Hero...

"House of flying daggers"

This movie's scenery and cinematography was awesome.  The story was reasonably well-written, with only a few problems in tieing together later events with the previous ones. I dont want to give anything away in case you haven't seen it.  The fight scenes were very impressive, and not so much of the flying fighting as seen in "crouching tiger, hidden dragon"  or apparently are in Hero(which i have not seen).  However there is something very odd with the fighting scenese, being that style of film, which is the daggers can change direction in mid air, and sometimes kill several people.

The film is very much a love story based around the feud of the "flying daggers" (a anti-government group of warriors) and the government. This film can in some ways be seen as a modern romeo and juliet, with it's own twists of course.

In all, i give it a very good rating, probably around 7.5/10 and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed "crouching tiger, hidden dragon", "hero", or any other similar films

My friend just saw Frank Herbert in the above picture and is quoted as saying, "He was alive?! And he let them make that shit?!"

While there were many parts of the David Lynch incarnation of Dune which were done well, a lot of things were just too... weird/corny to be pulled off right. And that's a question I have about Dune movies in general. How do you make the parts of the movie which would seem really weird to people passable in cinema? Examples, the sandworms, the Bene Gesserit, the Harkonnens horsing around.

Mwah ha ha ha haaaaaa!  Just been to see Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.  I'm not going to post any spoilers, but...

Wait, hang on a sec.  Can you even have spoilers for this movie?  I mean you know what happens before and after it.  Meh.  Anyway, as I was saying...

This movie is fantastic.  I caught one of the many late-night showings in the UK.  Legally, the film has to be released on the 19th; today.  So the cinemas are sneaky and put on a showing just after midnight.  The place was packed, and the heat was almost unbearable... but the movie more than made up for it.

Now I'm not a hardcore fan, myself; I just enjoy Star Wars.  But the opportunity to see it presented itself, and I took it.  The atmosphere in the cinema was great, and complemented the movie in subtle ways.  Like I said, though, I'm not gonna go into too much detail about the movie itself - suffice it to say that it's kickass. :P - but the plot is much better than Episode I and II.  Not being a movie critic by anyone's standards, I can't say whether or not it's on par as a "Star Wars Movie", but then again I'm not one to compare movies.  I try to judge them on their own, but in this case it would seem that comparison is neccessary.

I seem to be rambling... my point is that this movie is great.  You don't have to be a hardcore fan to enjoy it, though some knowledge of Star Wars is helpful. :P The plot is great, the acting is great, the humour, suspense and overall experience is great.

Okay Rook's review of land of the dead.

1.5 Stars

2. 3 On Gore, due to todays restrictions, it was good.

3. I liked how the zombies were not just the slow stupid shamblers from the old movies. Do you guys honestly not think these are better? Whats more scary; a Army of shamblers that have no motivation or skills. Or a army of shamblers that can fire weapons, use blunt weapons and think in a simple manner.

Hands down the zombies are the best of the series, You even get incredibly decayed zombies.

Although Bub still wins in the smart zombie catagory, it was still close. Onlything that lost it for big daddy was the "UGGGHHHH!" he did all the time

I enjoyed the plot, it wasn't just lets escape and survive, Ie Night/Day/Dawn. It actully had another point besides survival, which I think added alot. The character interaction was good, wasn't to overly done as in the original Dawn, but wasn't as tacky as the dawn remake.

It's just the right length, not to long or two short. Another half hour? Another half hour of what? sitting around bitching about "feelings" and crying about their situation? Not to short though. Just right.

It's a Zombie freaking movie not a docu drama.

4. Story was good, actully had a point besides living momment to momment. Good Human Vs. Human conflicts, Human Vs. Supernatural conflicts. I also enjoyed the business man towards the end of the movie, how he saved people from the electric fence. Did he die? or make it? Who knows. Romero did good in the Char picking.

5. Yes, By far it should over take the original Dawn.

1. Zombie wise; Land winds hands down, none of them are pink or blue. Just as many memorable zombies in Land then in Dawn, and no god forsaken nurse zombies. They arn't dumb clods clawing at glass or stumbling down a escalater. Zombie acting is much much better.

I like Savini's cameo as well.

2.The fact that is not as long as the original dawn, Doesn't draw anything out beyond its point. Gives enough info about the characters to make them likeable and to make you care, but doesn't spend a hour and half of them doing their own make up and dancing around for the hell of it.

3. Has a goal besides just sitting and surviving in the mall, Has sub plots and was just a much more complex movie then Dawn, with out getting jumbled up and getting bogged down.

So new ranking system...

1. Day

2.Land.

3.Night 68

4.Night 90

5.Dawn 04.

6. Dawn 78.
