Ok, ok, i have to admit i cheated on my dear emperor last night.

I went to the video club and rented RA2 with YR.

As i see manny people playing it on the XWIS server i thought it must be just as good as emperor.

The start looked promessing, some nice babes to welcome me and support me in my quest :)

Nice movies in the style i was used from Emperor.

Then i started playing....

The graphics can't be compared with Emp. Emp is way better.

The gameplay of Emp is also way better. There are far more tactics in Emp then in RA2.

What was nice is that there were also ships, and i like that the invantery could be 'deployed'

Maybe 10 years ago RA2 could compete with Dune2K, but is can't get even close to my dear Emperor.

So i really don't understand why there are so much RA2 players online and not htat many Emp players.....

well, for me I don't like the gameplay of Emperor Battle for Dune.

You mentioned that there are less far more tactics in Emp then in RA2. But you have just started playing it a few days. You must be one hell of a RA player if you recognise and know all tactics in such a short time.

It's nice of you to say Emperor Battle for Dune is way better, but keep in mind that gaming is a subjetive experiance. One gamer likes realism, the other prefers a game like 13.

For the grafics, I agrre. . .Emperor looks more enhanced then RA. Although I personally don't like to play n the slick looking 3d world of Emperor.

I think one of the more important things of a game is the pleasure and sattisfaction one get's while playing it. Not the grafics, community size or techonological advancment one game has.

Hm. I can't get the move topic to work. It keeps coming up with an error.

"Although I personally don't like to play n the slick looking 3d world of Emperor"

RA2 looks like a cartoon. C&C1 looked more realistic.

The reason why more people play ra2, is because it is more fun than emperor. even though I like the story, units and the entire atmosphere in emperor better, there is something about ra2 which makes it more addictive and more endurable. thats just how all the c&c games have been. they are the most genius games ever made!! nothing beats them...not even emperor.

Well RA2 does look like a comic and it's not a serious game. The graphics are seriously beaten by Emperor.

HOWEVER!

Red Alert already had a bigger fanbase. RA2 is easier to play and made for a bigger community. Everyone likes tanks and marines, not everybody likes sand. Also in RA2 they experimented with new and fun units. They didn't want it to be serious so they created units like the crazy ivan, prism tank etc. But they are fun to use. The entire game is just that.. fun. Also the singleplayer campaign is better.

I won't decide which game would be better. But RA2 is directed at a bigger community. Emperor is a great game but the setting is nothing like a traditional RTS.

Well, the setting is the same (see previous post...), and the gameplay is of mostly the same structure (build base and harvest spice, amass army, kill enemy). Even a good deal of the unit names and functions are similar (deviator, devastator (firing dual plasma cannons in DII as I recall), and so on).

I own RA2. Although we first got it when we had a PII 300mhz computer, it ran slow.

Havnt played it in about 3 years.

Wasn't too bad of a game. Some good concepts.

agreed but what i mean with traditional is indeed the setting. Red Alert, Command and Conquer, Warcraft etc. they're all setted in a universe that pretty much everyone likes. Dune is different. It has hardcore fans, found on this site for instance, but there's also lots of people that just get bored of that sand world all the time. And they don't realy like the lack of water I guess.

Red Alerrrrt. I still remember the first one(RA1) it was a lot of fun although the graphics weren't so good. Then when the sequel was released i couldn't stop playing it, and the multi was really great. And yeah, the graphics are not so good comparing to Emperor, but there is a year difference between the two games. So RA2 was brilliant for the time it was released, but now... Emperor rulezz! :)

The game-play is entirely different, but you wouldn't know that unless you'd played online, which I can only assume you have not.

Well, what has that got to do with the context of

"Everyone likes tanks and marines, not everybody likes sand [...] Emperor is a great game but the setting is nothing like a traditional RTS."?

Not at all. I stressed a point (that point being that the gameplay is drastically different between DuneII and Emperor) and you then argued against that point. In order for you to have argued against me, I should imagine you took my post as a direct contradiction of your words, which, if true, validates the argument in any case.

Hey you are like me. For me EBFD is the best RTS there is ( along with AOE and tibsun and wc3 ). I guess people do not like EBFD is for the lack of Sea units and RA2 has more superweapons and buildings and it has waypoionts and beacons and more control buttons. But the EBFD environment  its subhouse gameplays and the futuristic looking units make me more attracted to it then RA2.
