This isn't a "Emperor's dead, too bad" thread, I'm just simply asking a question. We all know WW/EA/Who/whatever didn't advertise Emperor, no denying that, but would you guys actually have wanted a massive-scale advertising campaign (and don't say, "well I'd like a medium size one to get..." because with game companies it's all or nothing)?. Think about it, do you like the smaller community where everyone knows everyone else or would you have liked Emperor to be like Starcraft?

Not having experienced EBFD when it was more popular, I can speak only for its current state.

It is fine having a small community, almost everyone knows everyone else. The only problem I can think of is that sometimes there are not enough people to play a game...Either there is no one, or 3 people waiting ages for someone...

I'd like to have it like the old times , was much funner . I also like the clans and then endless matchs , and having real clans and clanmates , with rival clans and such .

I have been there back in the old days, but I never was in a clan, I always played just for fun, and it was fun.

being able to get a game at anytime was great  :)

small community is still excellent and you learn more, everyone want those slower players like me to improve so they get better games and so do i  ;)

where as when community was large you often just got battered with no tips or advice althought there were some who would tutor you even then.

I got tutored back then quite well, and I quite often play Emperor at my home LAN with my brother and/or some friends, and I always crush them with quite little effort or in the most stupid way, but when it comes to playing against really good player I'm still the one being crushed...

Often MORE ADVERTISING = LARGER COMMUNITIES = GREATER DEVELOPMENT ATTENTION. Bigger communities are better in that more pressure is put on the development company to produce more patches/expansion packs for the game in question.

But, of course, LARGER COMMUNITIES often means MORE FREAKS in the forums.

Like people mention about...what is the game now...erm, warcraft 3 ?Maybe generals..Or starcraft ? Where there are so many people there is a load of cheating going on and its a crap community. Let me find the thread I read that in.

Edit:

Found it.

look at me... I have just started playing Emperor 2 weeks ago.

I was never a fan of the 3D RTS stuff... I played Dune1 and Dune2... and stuck to Dune2 for quite a long long time. I stopped playing and after a while started playing Half-Life, CounterStrike and Quake3...

I tested Emperor a few months after its release and didn't like ist. I didn't play any other RTS the whole time, so I was still thinking about good old Dune2 and 2D - I guess that's why I didn't like Emperor the first time I played it.

2 weeks ago a friend of mine gave me his Emperor CDs and I started playing and I enjoy it. A game isn't dead as long as there are some people who play it.

But think about this: CounterStrike is the most popular multiplayer game in the world but in my opinion  THIS game is dead. Although there are so many people who like it. Many leagues, tournaments ... - But there are so many stupid idiots in the scene, too many newbies who are really n00b (newbies are okay, but if they are just too stupid to do just one single thing like its supposed to be done it really sucks). There is insulting all the time, cheating, the whole community has broken and the game got worse with every new version... this is what I call a dead game altough it is more alive than ever before.

btw: sorry for my english if it ain't that good like it should :)
