Okay, have to agree with both of Emprworm's last points.  Too many crazy billionaires on Earth, and from a few trips to our northern neighbor...Quebec is a nation within a nation.

Thanks btw, this thread helped get a question on Super Millionaire last night about Quebec.

tell me if I am wrong, but I have noticed many canadians dont like Quebec, or the people of quebec, and they dont like how they have forced a lot of things on the rest of the canadian people like making french so intrigal to canada. and I know this for a fact from research that many, if not most canadians hate the fact that quebec wants to break away from canada. I dont blame the canadians, as I think it is silly. I loved Conan Obrien when he went to canada and sent Triumph to make fun of the people of quebec, all the canadians loved it.

"anyways about the seperation of quebec from canada, do you guys hear that?"

the quebec couple says "no, dont hear anything".

then Triumph says "Its the sound of nobody giving a damn!" lol its so funny.

emprworm, have you or you wife ever lived in or even been to Quebec?  With all due respect, you havn't even lived here for a month yet and are many hundreds of kilometers away from the "problem" you speak of.  Perhaps you should wait until you have a better understanding of the situation before you try to "fix" us.

To all of you, be advised that it is in the interest of both the anglophone and francophone media in Canada to exaggerate the extent of separatism in Quebec as it is an issue of importance to all Canadians.  Also, it is absurd to hold a referendum of independance the requires only a 50% majority.  Separation would brutally shape virtually every aspect of society in and out of Quebec, and IMO is such a drastic move it should require at least a 75% majority.

Bottom line is both referendums failed despite a 90% white francophone population in Quebec city controlling the province trying to establish a climate of separatism.  Lucien Bouchard, former Quebec premier and the most widely-recognized face of separatism in the country quit and moved to the US.  Now if that doesn't indicate separatism is functionally dead, I don't know what does.

By the way try free us from Manitoba, too as they are mixed ( French + English , romantic eh? ).

And Nunavat because they are native and Northwest territory and Yukon and ...

problem is that I've already shown that the world's richest people favor the side of the left

Oh really? Have you done a statistical analysis? Have you determined the political views of the world's richest 1000 people and drawn a chart? Or are you just pulling it out of your ass as usual?

...and favored it as they were aquiring wealth.  (i.e. they weren't on the right, got wealthy, and then moved to the left)  Those who are on the left, are the biggest exploiters of all.

Fallacy. It doesn't matter WHO is on the left. What matters is WHAT the left stands for. I'm sure there are some hypocrites on the left, just like there are some hypocrites on the right. So?

But while we're on the subject of who is on the left, have you been living under a rock for the past 100 years? Do you know anything at all about the voter base of social democratic, socialist and communist parties? The left wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the workers who vote for it. The voter base of the left is and has always been among the poor and exploited.

I can't believe I have to argue well-established fact.

...left wing billionaires...

See, Emprworm, your problem is that you don't really understand what "left wing" means. You don't seem to make the difference between John Kerry, Franklin Roosevelt, Mahatma Ghandi and Karl Marx. That would be like me putting George Bush, Milton Friedman, Ayn Rand and Adolf Hitler into the same "right wing" category.

You're all excited about your handful of liberal billionaires, but you seem to forget the fact that liberalism represents the center-left. Has George Soros ever championed the abolition of capitalism? No. He is only concerned that the extreme capitalism we practice today is getting out of hand. He is an advocate of a mixed economy.

George Soros is a billionaire with a conscience. Not enough of a conscience to spend all his fortune helping the poor, mind you, but enough to be concerned that perhaps our present-day capitalism is going too far.

The rich have a good reason to be afraid of anything that makes the poor TOO poor. This is the kind of stuff that causes revolutions. No communist revolution has ever taken place in a mixed economy. They only happen in countries with unrestricted capitalism.

there's too many left wing billionaires on this planet.

There's too many billionaires. Full stop.

eprworm, perhaps you should meet some people from Quebec and get yourself a few serious articles about the French-English problematic and its history before you talk. And since you are at it, meet some people from the province before you take so many conclusions that we could think you are a specialist. Anyway, if you pass in Quebec for real, try to ask people s opinion for real too. About why they wish/ed independance, about debts or about Chirac for example...

emprworm, here again, is this based on anything? Before saying anything about Quebecer and the Quebec-Canada situation, you should at least know what is the situation and its past. And this includes loss of culture/assimilation by language (or absence of it if so).

Am I writing on this board in French? Is everyone in Quebec absent from English boards? Go in Montreal, and you will see that not only aren t we speaking exclusively French, but in the region of Montreal almost 100 percent can communicate very well or are FLUENT in English.

Oh man why did you kick him up before I could.

Yes emperowormy Qubec was Canada first and both Francophones and Anglophones lived their lives there. The other provinces grew up later.

I guess the yankees ( others might not be ignorant but the texans are ) do not understand the meaning of Bilingualism.

By the way Adolph Hitler was neither left nor right he was a NAZI ( Nationalist ) and Fundamentalist Christian ( actually extremist, fundamental is good but too much is too much ).
