go to www.google.com

enter "french military victories" and then click "i'm feeling lucky"

That shit is old, completely unrelated to the topic and filled to the top with oversimpled bullshit and lies.

If the French lost every battle they ever fought, then why is there still a country called France?

Because the USA saved their bread and cheese loving behinds time and time again.... oui oui.

:D

oh man these are my favorite quotes from that site.

- French Revolution

Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French. (SEE they didnt lose EVERY war!)

- World War I

Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

-"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. All you do is leave behind a lot of noisy baggage."

-Or, better still, the quote from last week's Wall Street Journal: "They're there when they need you."

;D

Before it even existed? That's quite some feat.

Indeed it is, especially considering there would be no USA to save them had they not saved the colonials in our Revolutionary War.

The French and British could have won the war in another year with out america in world war one. The German people wer starving to death, America really didnt make that much difference.

um ahh...

some of the greatest warriors came from france. Patton's greatest hero, Fredrick the Great, was one of the greatest military minds of all time. he had the famous quote "audacity, audacity, always audacity". Some of the greatest war colleges used to be stationed in france and Normandy was considered for ages one of the greatest schools for swordmastery. There are so many things that make france one of the central points for military strategy and tactics that it is absolutely foolish to say that france has never been a military powerhouse. I mean they arent number one, but if anybody, point the finger at the italians.lol I am not talking about the romans, but certain provinces of italy, yikes it is disturbing how abismal their fighting was.lol there were some provinces though that were amazing, not saying all of em were gbad fighters.

But: what if the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour would have been stopped? Would the US still invent the atomic bomb? I've heard stuff about Hitler wanting to create one (now that's a surprize, isn't it?) - but other sources say that the Germans didn't even come close. Any info on this?

Germany was quite close.  A British commando team in Norway destroyed the heavy water supply vitally needed for the completion of Hitler's program.

With a bit more time the Germans would have got it, but they had already executed or scared off many of their greatest scientists (Einstein, for example, went to America. Where he helped make the bomb. Hmm). It would have taken them much longer to get it.

As for the Japanese... Well the attack on Pearl Harbour brought the US into the war, but I think it was developing nuclear technology anyway. It's just that Pearl Harbour sped up their research a bit. There were, I believe, plans to drop bombs on German cities if the war continued for much longer. Fortunately, that never came to pass.

The Germans were trying to make an atomic bomb.

There were two things that I know of that would keep them from ever doing so.

* They needed heavy water from Telemark in Norway.

We blew it up before it got out of the country.

* The guy designing the bomb made some mathematical error regarding the amount of uranium, I think.

@American Cyborg:

The A. bombs were meant for using on the Nazis but the thing was that Germany was defeated before the project was completed.

The Japanese kept fighting on even though their cities were being bombed by US bomber planes, so the decision to use the A.bombs was made.

The makers of the bomb[especially Einstein] actually did not want Harry Truman to use the bomb on the populated cities and just wanted him to use it on an island with no-one on it to show the japs how powerful the bomb is and make them surrender while Truman's advisors wanted him to use it to reduce possible casualties from direct fighting by going into their lands to fight and then make Japan surrender.
