Mahdi
Genetic evidence from 2003 and a brand-spanking new experiment involving teeth suggest that the massive invasion of Saxons beggining in the fifth century (which ultimatly gave rise to the legends of King Arthur) never actually happened.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3514756.stmOf course, it could jsut be they looked in the wrong cemetary.... Inoculator9
I'm going to say wrong cemetary on this one ;) It's not conclusive enough for me.
shygirl4
I would think some sort of invasion took part, after all my country was named after it, the anglo saxon influx led to it beeing called, angle land, and later England. shy ::)
Terror
Yeah, i will have to agree with these two here. I don't believe that it's all some sort neat story.
Caid Ivik
Those people should be jailed for grave robbery and accept the fact that if England is called as it is, the had to be some English folk after whom it is made. There was no evidence found that Hungarians invaded Great Moravia, but the fact is there was for thousand years a Hungarian Empire on her soil... Science is losing logic. alchemi2
Never read anywhere the the angles wiped out everyone and replaced them! just that they invaded and replaced the ruling body, as did the the romans, vikings and the normans. ???So surely this evidence just supports that!Hence the arguement we've never been conquered just had to absorb the odd foriegn into the national gene pool.England home on the mongrel, one country fits all ;)
Leandros
Well... the true story is far more sinister than you all think. And I could get assasinated just for mentioning it, but... I'll say it with one word... FACEDANCERS!!! :D
Dante
Scotland's never been conquered. ;D England, as far as I know, has been conquered several times, but as was pointed out, has a tendancy to absorb the invaders into itself. Including the Angles.
Kiyouta
Did the Anglo-Saxons actually invade Britain?Of course they didn't!Why would anyone want to invade their own country... ;D

Dante
Picts. And they got a little bit before they were amalgamated, never got the whole country. They mixed in before they could do it. And England has never conquered Scotland. In fact technically, Scotland conquered England; since when Queen Elizabeth I of England died it was James VI of Scotland who took the throne. And every single monarch of Britain after him has been decended from Mary Queen of Scots (Yes, even the ones from Germany). So in actual fact, we conqured you. Dante
Disraeli was elected. And mostly we're from Ireland, though that was ages ago... Literally. The Angles didn't get much of a foothold up here, and neither did the saxons, as far as I am aware.
