mordusxxx Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 really if u think about it how smart is a human being or how smart are u. personally i think that i am very smart i mean so smart i think i should just go hide somewere and ponder on my thoughts cuz that makes me even smarter just thinking about it, i know i do not know alot about alot of things but i know what i know and its really mind blowing for me to know so many diffrent things on so many diffrent subject, i dont know all about one thing or all about one topic but, but i know to much variety of things that sometimes hurts my thoughts, anyone else see were i am coming from?
TMA_1 Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 lol, not trying to offend you, but that is the exact kind of thing I would say with a friend when I used to do drugs.lol like uppers or mild hallucinigenics. anyway sounds a bit strung out to me... could be wrong though.yes it makes sense kinda, but what is the point in sharing this info? I kinda get what you mean you think you are fully aware of things that make you feel disconnected from others, but could that be some sort of problem? I mean could it be more paranoia than anything?
mordusxxx Posted January 28, 2004 Author Posted January 28, 2004 nonono. lol i mean just the knowledge of knowing things, do u ever feel that people are stupid and should just wake up and look around, it seems that everyone is so tied up in stupid shit that they really are just machines running around doing the overseers duties i dont know i just think that people are in general very stupid and have set thoughts and set standards.
Atomic Mitten Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 People are like sheep, who follow various shepards, once someone realises this for the first time,he ceases to be a sheep in a sense,But then in reality he becomes a more intelligent sheep,in a higher flock. We all follow unwritten laws to a certain extent, one way or another. What that means to one individual depends on his or her circumstances, and how he or she is able to change or modify his world around him.The only way to achieve anything in this world is to set goals and steps to achieving them.If someone just drifts along aimlessly then they will never attain their fullfilment.IMHO
Inoculator9 Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 While quiet ponderance is wonderful mordus, and I would like nothing more than to spend a hunk of my life devoted to it, our society prevents it... a more depressing bit of sentient evolution... but hopefully we'll all be happy go lucky energy clouds soon enough :P
GUNWOUNDS Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 i kinda feel that intelligence is like sex.... the people bragging
Egeides Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Intelligence is a tool. The one weilding it in any way he finds is a complete idiot. Go the wrong way and you're just going worst. The one that yells that he's intelligent probably didn't found any worthwhile way yet, whattever if he's intelligent or not.
GUNWOUNDS Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 i dont know all about one thing or all about one topic but, but i know to much variety of thingsthis is not an insult.. but the proper term for this is "trivia knowledge" ... not intelligence..i dont consider people good at the board game "Trivial Pursuit" .. or those people on JEOPARDY game show to be genius people.they just know alot of trivial crap that
mordusxxx Posted January 30, 2004 Author Posted January 30, 2004 i never said i was good at knowing capitals or guessing what year some guy played for a team, i know alot about cars, alot about history, and alot about life, people places things of that nature. so dont think i am just some game show fag :P
Dante Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Intelligence, like many other things, is relative. It is extremely difficult to be brilliant at everything and thus most people specialise to a given degree on only a few forms of 'knowledge.' This can be as simple as memorising facts or an ability to see underlying facts or truths about people or problems. It may manifest itself artistically. People who say they know a lot about something are either extremely confident or lying (possibly both). Socrates (ancient greek philosopher for those of you who don't know) once asked the oracle at Delphi who the wisest man in Greece was (it was either Greece or the world... can't quite remember which). The oracle answered that it was Socrates.Socrates came to the conclusion that he was the wisest man in Greece because he was the only one who did not profess to know anything. Smart guy.
TMA_1 Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 lol , I love socretes, but that is a really silly answer to the question. It is something he would come up with though.like one time somebody made fun of his ugliness, and he retorted with the semi-joke."my eyes bulge out, but that enables me to see better tahn you, my ears jet out, but lets me hear better, my nose is large, but that helps me to smell better. In which case I am superior to you in every way."lol
nemafakei Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Intelligence is a measure of your ability at processing information.Wisdom is your capacity to estimate probabilities such as the confidence in your knowledge - your reckoning at how certain you are of any given fact.Genius is your ability (or perhaps likelihood) to make analogous links and solve problems with an inspired abstraction.
Warskum Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 i never said i was good at knowing capitals or guessing what year some guy played for a team, i know alot about cars, alot about history, and alot about life, people places things of that nature. so dont think i am just some game show fag :PU might think u know alot, but in reality u know almost noting, since there are so many thing that humans still dont understand and things that we will maybe never understand, so the things u know is maybe 0.0000000000001% of all the thing u can know, i dont consider knowing facts as beeing smart, if u can use those facts to make conclusions or think logical and think of solutions ans stuff like that, if u can use the things u know then i consider u as smart.i dont know the exact words but someone once said somthing like this: A wise man will never say he is smart. Big chance that it was Socretes like TMA mentioned.
Apollyon Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 'Tis a wise horse who knows he is a fool while he is still young. That's CS Lewis's take on Socrates. lol. :P
Inoculator9 Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 Well said Nema, and the distinction is certainly as you said. But it's to practical, to cold. What accomodates philosophy? Wisdom is that to me. The consideration and contemplation of religion, life, politics, and social orders results in either wisdom, foolishness, or utter stupidity.
TMA_1 Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 a wise man knows he is wise, but has no need to express his prowess to others. Others will see it or not. Wisdom exists, whether a person says so or not.Of course wise men know that to be arrogant is to be a fool. So those who say they are wise are not wise at all, they may know much, but as nema said the application of knowledge is wisdom. You dont have to belittle your own wisdom though, that is a huge mistake people make with wisdom.
GUNWOUNDS Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 U might think u know alot, but in reality u know almost noting, since there are so many thing that humans still dont understand and things that we will maybe never understand, so the things u know is maybe 0.0000000000001% of all the thing u can know, i dont consider knowing facts as beeing smart, if u can use those facts to make conclusions or think logical and think of solutions ans stuff like that, if u can use the things u know then i consider u as smart.i dont know the exact words but someone once said somthing like this: A wise man will never say he is smart. Big chance that it was Socretes like TMA mentioned.good point warskum.. but i tihnk we are all relating "smartness"
Inoculator9 Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 The fact that we know so little as Warskum said, should force people to think, rather than accepting without question the teachings of people who know comparably little.
Warskum Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 The fact that we know so little as Warskum said, should force people to think, rather than accepting without question the teachings of people who know comparably little.Thats what i mean, we should try to use the things we know to find solutions and stuff and not just keep learning facts.
Inoculator9 Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 One more excuse for the abolishment of geometry and math class, in all their forms! ;DYes Warskum. There are people in every corner of the world peddling their beliefs as fact, when they aren't even remotely near qualified to consider ANYTHING a fact.
mordusxxx Posted February 1, 2004 Author Posted February 1, 2004 well i dont think its anyones right tell to someone what they know, how do u know i dont know the secrets to life but i just sit on it and ponder? who knows,(me) :P
