I think they did in the prequels but there is no mention if it in the originals because the only place they are mentioned there is on Arrakis and personal shields aren't used on Arrakis apart from desparate situations (like Duncan Idaho in the movie) because they attract worms.

Well ive been using 3d studio for about 4 months now(not including when i had that free version of 3d studio) I think, but im getting increasigly obsessed now. If you really like doing it and you have more time then I do you could probly go faster. Once you learn it then its not that hard at all mostly, it depends tho.
