You see them in Ordos and Atreides missions 5 (ish) - you must either defend (as AT) or attack (with 'gholas' of AT units) the fremen.

Mission 5??

I think there are no yaks in the Dune books, but there are Muad'Dib (jumping desert mice), some poisonous insects, and birds of prey (desert hawk, vulture)... And about the yaks in Emperor...Well there were also suboids in Ixian bases on Dune, and as we all know, the suboids never leave their homes in the Ixian caverns... I think so, I might be wrong, though

They are merely for transporting Fremen from the Villages, as they have no other means of transport.

The fremen civilians can't ride worms etc. only the seitch fremen can.

And dub_c the units all move at very different speeds. Look at the Devastator.

In the books, all fremen can ride worms, even the women and the old.  For the few who can't, the rest put a seat thing on it for them to ride in. Also, according to the books, the fremenwould not have used bikes because of the rhythmic noise.
