Has anyone ever encountered them? Little comic packets of doom? Passing off Pagans as evil? Passing off the Pope as the Anti-Christ, and the Eucharist as the Death Cookie? Have no clue what I'm ranting about?

Yes, meet world famous (more like infamous) evangelist Jack Chick. His tracts are humorous at best, degrading at worst. He even has a Halloween section.

So any thoughts on Mr. Chick? I admit it is a good way to spread the gospel, but really...the man blames Catholics for the Holocaust...

A mental lunatic bent on brainwashing little children with cute stories that have nothing at all in common with reality.Yeah, that pretty much sums him up.

Acriku, don't worry... we wont let them put some poisonous Halloween tracts into your bag ;D

I wonder if they'd accept the opposite: atheist puting tracts in bags...

So, let me get this right, this guy thinks a cartoon-based discussion of the origins of the ideas of gluons is firstly a disproval of atomic physics, and secondly a disproval ov evolution?

That the questionability of some of the examples of evolution of humans disproves all other evolutionary examples, logic and theory?

My goodness, does this man need to think before he scrawls.

No he doesn't Nema...well he does, just not sanely. I reccomend Boo! and the tracts focusing against Dungeons and Dragons for humor. That or go to the book section, and read sample chapters from the books (including "Stairway to Hell" which has up a sample chapter for D&D).

I'd best not comment.

Its his way of getting the word out to people. Theres others out there that argue creation/evolution Nemi. Take for example Kent Hovine ( www.drdino.com )

Pamphlets have been around since the eighteen hundreds.

dont you think making a post complaining about him just gives him more attention than he deserves? and who cares? I see groups like the jesus seminar as even more evil as him, often the liberal media portrays christianity in even more of a profain view than the ultra fundi's. they are all bad and it is silly to make entire posts slandoring him.

"the tracts focusing against Dungeons and Dragons for humor"

Heheh! My goodness, this is really, really awful!

The most notable consideration completely ignored is the thought that the roleplaying is not so much a former of culture as a reflection on society. NB the difference between roleplaying in mainland Europe, Britain and in the US. The emphasis here is on the roleplaying, more on the storytelling aspect on the continent (it seems), and on the hack-and-slash and die rolls in the US. Guess where this source has been?

hmmm im just not a fan of handing out this kinda stuff, just cos he says its a good way of getting into a habit of telling people about xianity, when really it's not like the person giving them out is actually sharing their faith with someone, they're just giving out tracts, which to me seems like a total cop-out. and in his "he never told us" tract he equates telling people the gospel with giving out his tracts which is just so damn arrogant it makes me wanna hit something hard like this table......

and he makes some very weird statements with no backup like saying the catholic church is the whore of babylon. id love to know where he got that one from.

and some of his pet peeves seem to come through, like rock music <which i believe is in no way the tool of satan he makes it out to be>

Heh someone sent me a link to soem anti-Chick sites, including his views on the Vatican...here are the claims listed there:

Chick blames Islam, the US Civil War, Lincoln's assassination, WW1, WW2, the Illuminati, the KKK, Freemasons, Mormons, Christian Science, New Age Movement, Ecunemical Movement, Jehovah's Witnesses, Communism, the Russian Revolution, and the Jonestown Massacre on the Vatican.

right, he blames totally anticatholic organisations like the mormoms jws and christian sciences on the catholic church? and that would help them HOW? and i think you have to be fairly darn wacked out paranoid to believe in the illuminati AFAIK. like david icke far out.

Don't worry, you can get far more insane than that. For example, the nazis blame WW2 on the Jews... ::)

The sad fact is that many people don't listen to the voice of reason, but rather to the voice who shouts the loudest. Propaganda is meant to appeal to irrational instincts and emotions. That's what makes it so successful.

And personally, I think Jack Chick needs some professional help.

If you really wanted to know what he believes, you wouldn't be looking it up on an anti chick website now would you? ::)

I checked out the tracts, and I must say they are pretty evil. It is funny though that most christians who rail accusations against weirdos like jack chick are trying to appear to others as being tolerant. Almost like they think they need others to see that christianity isnt archaic and old fashioned. Not all people are like this, but some.

Who cares what jack chick says? Some of you may say you care, but if you did you would have some constructive things to say against the guy. Christian fundimentalists are so easy to attack because they make fools of themselves at times, and seem like backwater primitives.

I never see any other group attacked, besides racist organizations and whatnot. Why do you guys pick on fundimentalists? The reason why I dont like it is I am a christian, and I know that one thing leads to another. Soon it wont just be fundimentalists, it will be anybody who professes christ as their savior. Most "christians" on this site rarely do that. they may call themselves christian but never profess the fundimentals behind the belief. using terms like xtian and whatnot, it is all silly and childish. usually it is early teenagers and young adults who say things like that to piss off people they dont really even know. They say things like christians are closed minded and that they are so judgemental. Yet at the same time they are quick to judge christians and place them into one big barrel.

Jack Chick will face God, and when he does it is between him and God what he has done. Frankly I would worry more about those who wish to compremise and become tepid with their beliefs. most christians on this site are heading towards that path. you know how you can tell? easy, they get really upset to be accused of that. and though I havent named names, people will imply that they are the ones that are being attacked by what I say. Well by that very fact it shows your guilt.

Something to remember though, is every religion has its Fundamentalists. Wahabbists in Islam, some Christians, some Jews, etc.

Okay, looking through Seasonal Halloween children tracts, he can do cute work. Looking through the testimonies (if they are to be believed) he may annoy me, but so did Clyde Dupin's Crusade here, but it doesn't mean in the end we don't work for the same God.

Against him however? He persecutes any who do not believe as he does. He equates any Bible version other than KJV as Satan made.

lol you are right man, I even said he is docternally incorrect. First of all, I never remember Christ speaking gothic old english to people of ancient israel.lol I have read some of his tracts and he really does attack others. He goes about it the wrong way and he actually cripples christs name. The reason why is because he adds the fuel to christian hatred. There is a difference between standing up for your beliefs and preaching them, and attacking others who are minding their own business, offending using "hell, fire, and brimstone" tactics of preaching.

You are right there ordos, I probably should have been more clear. I was just worrying that it would just roll into a huge anti christian bash.

Posted

Oh sorry about that, shoulda realized. But yeah, you're right it could turn into a big anti-Christian bash easily. At least not all the tracts are so inflamatory.
