So, what are your expectations for the new Dune games?

I would like to see a Massive Multiplayer game with some RPG and RTS mixed. I was really hoping Dune Generations would get off the ground but it fell through ... I don't like pay to play much anyway.

A mixture of Frank Herbert's Dune, Emperor Battle for Dune and CnC Renegade would make for an awesome packed game, well thats just my perspective.

It really doesn't matter who has the licenses as long as it's not EA, I am very displeased with their company/service.

Yeah taht really sucks about DG... Plus, I was gonna get a free trip, then get to play the game for free! I'd finally have gotten back at gob for that trip to LV he got!;)

I'd like something with nice graphics,2 kinds of campaigns: FP and overhead view campaigns. With the multi-player,a stable server, not hell like EA's. I guess something like FH's Dune, except better and more improved.

I don't know any of the companies except Cryo and Ea,so Cryo :D ;D

i'd like to see an Emperor that is exactly like the current Emperor only with the following changes:

1. all the millions of pathfinding bugs are corrected

2. all the millions of other gameplay bugs are corrected

3. games are played online via a BNET-equivalent service

4. the developer constantly releases new maps and corrects balance issues for all time.

5. grouped units respond using the entire spectrum of "voice-acting" lines available to the individuals of that group, one chosen at random each time a group is given a command.

6. the experience system is fixed so as it actually serves a useful gameplay purpose. individual units should level-up one at a time (preferably, you can "select" which units you want all earned experience to syphon to) rather than the current, broken system which serves almost no useful purpose whatsoever.

7. sending elite ATR units and Sards back to the barracks should be tweaked so as it actually serves a useful purpose to gameplay unlike the current implementation in which this "feature" is *NEVER* functional in any real, online games ( this would be partially solved by implementing point # 6)

so basically, just fix Emperor and inject it with a constant stream of developer support (ie: CounterStrike), and we'd have a Dune game that could be played for the next 20 years.

realistically tho, there probably won't be any more Dune games, or if there are, they will be worthless piles of Dung such as "Frank Herbert's Dune". better not to think about new Dune games and just be happy that at least Emperor and Dune 2 were pretty good

The only dung around here is your posts.

There WILL be another Dune game.

And it is most likely not coming from EA anyway as they are working on the Generals expansions anyway.

Navaros, Brian Herbert jsut confirmed that new Dune games are in developement, butt here are complications, so he can't say anything more. I'm guessing due to the dozen or so licenses drifting around, not to mention the bombings of recent games.

Or maybe people are finally starting to beleive the Curse of Dune?

I'm hoping the new dune games are made by some new company, not EA. Maybe the new company will actually maintain their online servers so that there won't be periods of time(like the past 3 weeks) when you can't even play online.

i am not excited about any new Dune games. the unfortunate likelihood is, they will be crap like "Frank Herbert's Dune". that game bombed for very good reason. because it was a *bad* game. if they continue to shell out licences to any third-rate developer who knows a few die-hard Dune fans will buy it no matter what; then all future Dune games will be just as bad as the latest one was.

nothing will ever be as big as Emperor. Emperor is the King. the Grand Puba. Dune on the PC won't ever reach that level again.

that is why it breaks my heart to think about "new Dune games". they are destined to suck compared to Emperor. the only possible solution to this would be if a new developer hired-on Chris and they were able to licence the Emperor interface and engine from EA. now *that* would be cool! unfortunately, we all know that realistically, this will never happen. :(

it is a real Tragedy that the interface, engine, and entire design of Emperor is dead and buried along with Emperor. it reminds me of the Vampire: The Masquerade game. that game had a *PERFECT* engine and interface for it's licence - still the best interface & engine for it's genre on the Market, even to this day IMO - but since the developer was only commissioned to make one game with that licence, the brilliance of that one game had died with it. now another developer is making a new Vampire game with that licence, but there is no possible way the design of the new game can exceed or even come close-to the perfect one of the first game. such is the case with Emperor.

any new Dune game will be a step backwards from Emperor. an inferior product. something to bring sorrow to any gamer who has seen Emperor in it's glory days; not joy, as games should bring.

Mahdi why did you post it here where half the people on the site won't see it?

I think that no company will start on a new Dune RTS seeing as how all of them were failures except Dune 2 (and that was just because Dune2 pioneered the genre). So it would likely be an RPG of sorts.

However I'd like to see a Dune game based on the Total War game structure. You'd handle the economics of your country (or in this case, house), train troops and use strategic agents to destabilise your enemy, spy on him etc. This is the turn based part.

When there's a conflict you could chose to handle the battle personally (the RTS part) or to just resolve it automaticly. I think it would overall be better then D2K or Emperor.
