IS there any way to play old games like Command and Conquer or Red Alert on my new computer running windows XP.

I know I saw something about how to do it a long time ago, but at that point I didnt have XP so I didnt worry about it. Now I do have XP and I want to play my old games, but cant.

Alright, i might have the answer for both.

For c&c i know, you must download a patch. This will disable c&c's LAN play ability but you can play it on xp platform, i have not realy a link right now, but if you search for windows xp and command and conquer i bet you get enough results

As for Red Alert. Do you have the aftermath? In my case this was pretty simple. I installed red alert (using the win95 compatibility mode) and installed aftermath. When you install aftermath (without running ra at first as it won't work) the aftermath will normally install and patch your red alert. Once you did that and you run red alert. it will work.

Another ques: can I run DOS programs with XP?

Certain games you can. Others you can not.

whoops, you said programs...umm, not sure, don't think I tried recently. (but then I dont know many DOS programs.)

My opinion is that DOS programs run better in Windows XP. Just run it and windows will make a dos emulator for it.

DOS did weird things with memory, with all that extended memory etc. And XP seems to have more memory made free for DOS then win98

An example: I had an old DOS game, named Monster Bash, and it wouldn't run in Win98 because of memory problems, but when I restarted the computer in DOS mode, it worked because the mouse driver wasn't loaded.

But in XP I could run the game without a problem
