Emperor is a great source for Dune!

it is an officially licensed Dune product, so don't go saying malarky that it's not an "official" source for Dune

just because the developers don't know the Dune books to a "T" like the only guys who can stomach this board on a regular basis do does not mean that their product is any less worthy of it's "Dune" name, and is certainly no exscuse for the snobby and unwelcoming attitudes exhibited in this thread and all threads on this board

i bet if Gob wasn't the big man here then most of the Duniverse guys would act snobby to him as well. ::)

this board is always going to remain mostly-dead until the regulars here change their attitudes and stop thinking of themselves as "Superior Ambassadors of the Dune Community" simply because they've read a book or two more than another Duniverse poster

Exotic hats?? hmmm how much? ;)

Duniverse board is neat because it is a place where all the feuds we might have in prp are taken away. For instance if I disagree with you nema on prp, or dont agree with your views, I can read what you post in duniverse and highly respect it because you have a lot of great ideas. Everybody that posts good stuff on the duniverse forum has my utmost respect because everybody who posts on this board is so mature, so intellectual (kinda like what you said nema), and so reserved. I really like all of you guys here, and I just dont want to see it go away because of all the arguments and slandoring, made by many, (me being a large culprate) we can come here to unify and be friends. I cant remmeber the last time I or somebody else really got into a heated argument on the duniverse board. I seriously think a dunesday would be great, and a bunch of us have been talking about it. With poeple like mahdi and others it might be very fruitful to this board. You dont have to fill such strife in everything navaros. We dont look down upon emperor players. I personally only dislike those emperor players that act like you do about it.

why is this board looked upon like that? I only spend probably 50 or more % of my time here. on fed2k.lol

I certainly don't, but quotations such as:

"everybody who posts on this board is so mature, so intellectual (kinda like what you said nema), and so reserved."

Might lead me to believe that you do. :P

well its true. point out the horrible arguments we have on this board? point out the seperation and rifts between people, the anger and frustration that comes from the prp boards. Point out the mean things said. there arent any. it is a meeting of individuals united by a liking of Dune. It is in my opinion so much more civil than any other board. It is just truth, point out a huge argument that has been made recently in duniverse. point out bitter accusations.

if I offended you with that quote quondam, sorry man. :) if not than I am just kinda dim.lol sorry I just dont know if yo u quoted it because you agree, or because you think it is foolish. hopefully you can tell me.lol

It's civil (or boring, both are equivalent)because most of the people that post here (most of maybe, what - 6?) have been here long enough to know the rules. Also because there's no reason to be uncivil, no radicals or fundamentalists concerning dune, etc.

I dont find it boring, why do you find it boring acriku? and besides, you dont post here enough to know, havent posted in like a month. before that I dont know how long. petty words will not get you anywhere.

Besides, I like talking to people and having meaningful discussions. especially on such a cool topic such as Dune. Hell, that is why I came here in the first place. :)

Just because I post, doesn't mean I don't read the topics. So yes, I would know, and I do know. Most of these topics are boring. I used to like Dune books a lot, but now I have lost interest in all except the first and second Dune. A lot of the topics concern books I haven't read, so it's hard to find interest in them.

and that is why you read the other Dune books, if you dont want to then whatrya complaining about! lol ;)

but lets stop the squabbling, I love duniverse because there are no sideline attacks, things of that nature. people here post (usually) for real and good intentions. not just to explain why they dont like it, or veer off topic with worthless comments, or trying to pick fights, or trying to say things bad against one another. that is what I was getting at.

And of course, none of that is happening. I'm addressing the issue as to why there are civil posters here, and when you asked why it was boring I replied in a civil fashion. If you don't want an answer, don't ask for it.

No I was not offended by that statement.

Not that we are really completely off topic, but a few original points did get lost in the mix.

In response to one of those anyway about ways to revive:

4. New Dune games, being developed here (or close to) FED2k, like Sardaukar 2k, and like Dune Jihad (whenever that gets revived)

There definately isn't much in the way of Dune entertainment; mostly because it's not very lucritive commercial wise. But at that point, it's necessary that we focus on non-profit hobby sources. But many people also arn't that interested in Dune games and software. Check the "Other Dune Games" section; how often is it updated with new posts? Not very. This is probably due quite a bit to the fact that new threads about new games do not creep up very often, but I'd say some don't get very much support either. Which, admittedly, is fine; if an idea doesn't set well with someone, they probably won't support it. This of course doesn't go for everything. The Dune Risk thread had quite a track record.

But there's another side of the fence, and one I personally believe (probably because of personal experience blurring my reality perception) that is more pungent; most don't get much attention. I remember when I originally came to these boards, I had poked around the site on and off for quite a few months. After I had come far into the development of my Dune themed game (a mod of another game really) I found the board and posted about it. It recieved little attention. As I recall without looking at the thread, I had only two people interested in it. One had no idea what "Starsiege: Tribes", the game the mod was made for, was, and probably was just being curtious (and appreciativly so) about the situation. The other knew about the game and played Tribes2, but not the first one.

Now, I still do work on the mod, and have had quite a few advancements since then, but I dare to think that if I receieved more attention and feedback from people, I may have become more then just a lurker of the boards. I try to maintain my own (really shitty) boards on my site, but the member list consists of about 5 people, only probably 3 of which play the Dune mod on a regular basis, and only about 1 of those three that know anything about the Dune universe; the rest just enjoy the mod.

Of course, I keep a link in the links page for dune2k, but if I had recieved more feedback, I probably would have promoted it more, and attempted to bridge people from each of the two boards, to the other. But of course I understand that is more to the situation then people just plain not caring. After all, how can you really become excited about the mod if you don't even own, or--worse--have never heard of the original game it's made on? Certainly I've drawn only a few people from the original game to this mod, because the Dune theme is a unique nitch. But I was honestly suprised at the lack of response and attraction to it from the people on these boards.

The point is, is that it's not just good enough to "start a new game" even if it's affiliated with FED2k to promote interest. There needs to be an effort on the part of the members to help support, and provide feedback, both supportive and constructive, on the part of the creators. The start of a new project is great, but it is, after all, only a start.

You are correct Tezcatlipoca, people that have not played / own the game can not really get interested in a mod.

Your last post is correct, you need support to develope a game.

If I owned Tribes, then I would get your mod. But I do not, and if I ever do I will get your mod as it seems you put a lot of work into it.
