Better have it in a PS2 port. Those are made especially for mouses as far as I know. And you don't have unlimited USB ports.

I'd say the USB port. . . thought it had a higher transfer rate then the PS2. And pulling your keyboard outof a PS2 conenctor will result in a reboot as your keyboard will not be gecognised anymore, with your mouse that's not the same although USB is plug and play. Making it better suitable to disconnect it while your system is still on.

Is PS2 the old style of plugging things in? If so USB is much better. And you can buy converters from PS2 and USB as I did for my old computer with new mouse.

I have about 2-3 free USB ports.

I'd say opticall. Reacts much faster and more accurate.

[ and I know just one persone who stil prefers the good-old-ball-mouse, opticall is more common. ]

And mice balls get dirty.. ::)

They get dirty much quicker ;)

The ball will act as a possitive attractor to dust, where a optical mouse can attrackt some dust in the hole the lens is in at the bottom, althought you need a very dusty table if you can get it thatfar ;)
