It's true, dune2k.com now has an ad on top right corner. :'(

At least it's not a popup. Hope they pay well ;)

Comments?

Does anyone ever click or use an ad they find on a webpage? does anyone actually read a popup ad or just press the x on top right corner.

Wow you predicted the future Nav.

Even if we did have ads the money would be next to nothing. Thats why they were removed way back when.

Gob help us all. ;)

Just seeing if it actually makes any money, no one is donating so ads are the other option. So far it doesn't look like it will make much but I just put them on today.

I should start a fund, once it gets to $100 Nav is banned, of course Nav could also counter this fund by donating himself. Who would win??? :)

I thought this was what we were raising the money for ... or was it for hfmatsof ???

Navaros you are such a bragger but you don't have a brain. I wonder how many days you have left to live because you got infected with SARS.

and this isn't even funny.

Just checked and we've had 1,116 impressions with 8 clicks for $1.11.

do you get money for impressions?

if i block the Ad, would that still register impressions for you?

How does Google target ads to my website?

Simply put, we provide you with AdSense HTML ad code to place on the web pages on which you want to display AdWords ads. Then, we take care of the rest by leveraging award-winning and proprietary Google search and page-ranking technologies to deliver relevant AdWords ads to those content pages.

We go beyond simple keyword matching to understand the context and content of web pages. Based on a sophisticated algorithm that includes such factors as keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web, we know what a page is about, and can precisely match Google ads to each page

How do you prevent click and impression spam?

Google monitors clicks on Google AdWords ads to prevent abuse of the Google AdSense program. Google's proprietary technology analyzes clicks to determine whether they fit a pattern of fraudulent use intended to artificially drive up an advertiser's clicks or a publisher's earnings. Our system can automatically distinguish between clicks generated through normal use by users and clicks generated by click spammers and automated robots, enabling us to filter out fraudulent clicks. Advertisers are not charged for clicks deemed by us to be click spam. Therefore, these clicks should not be included in your earnings.

Do you guarantee to have relevant ads for my site?

Since the ability for us to serve ads on your site depends on a number of factors, such as our ability to crawl your site, the content of each of your web pages, and the availability of related AdWords ads, Google does not guarantee that we'll always have relevant ads to display. If we don't have relevant ads for a given page, or if we haven't yet crawled your site, we'll display public service AdWords ads for which you won't receive earnings.

What is an impression?

We count an impression when our AdSense Javascript is actually executed by a user's browser and ads are displayed. This is generally the equivalent to a page view, but as described in question 3 below, there are instances that wouldn't execute the ad code and that would cause a discrepancy between the impressions you register and the impressions that appear in your AdSense account.

Why do I detect a different number of impressions than what shows in my reports?

We count impressions only when our ad code is executed by a user's browser. There are therefore several factors that would cause a discrepancy between the impressions you register and the impressions listed in your AdSense account. Instances that wouldn't execute the code include:

* Other spiders, robots, crawlers from other search engines

* Browsers that don't have Javascript enabled or don't support Javascript

* Browsers that don't support the <iframe> tag

* Programs that people may have written to grab website content

Ooh, August, Nav! Wow! The site's been up for years, you think people haven't already suggested the idea. We'd not initially had enough traffic, but...

Giga, your post was simply a pointless, irrelevant flame.

"you think people haven't already suggested the idea"... of getting funds from it, I meant.

What actually happened to them - at the time, you said something about the ad server going down, which seemed rather funny.

Well before any money from ads went directly to our hosts at GameStats. And it was stopped once the ads just weren't making enough money to make it worthwhile to keep it running.

EDIT - answered my own question that is now gone.

And some people have the bookmark to directly to the forum, and thus skip the main page. If the ad was on main fed2k forum much more traffic, although people don't want to see ads while posting.

I take it these ads are based on preferences you set, yes? So dune stuff will appear, computer games... hang on, there's an ad here for hotels in the Netherlands! Haha!
