I think this forum is cool too and well run. Ok it's not as leniant and sometimes threads get closed i want to post in but hey.. if someone is going to go off on a tangent then the best thing to do is nip the problme in the bud. I think it's a good forum.. The only reason i made my forum in the first place is because i didn't know about this place and Gob was not running the WW forums. People said he was but it turned out he didn't have the power to so he was just sitting back and watching in a way. That's why i made my forums cause things were getting out of hand and we all hated the forums and certain bad users so we split away to make a peacefull community. But these forums here are fine. If we had have come here earlier my boards wouldn't exist for emporer. Gob's doing a good job.

How many Emp players are going to play Generations
Soul_-_Reaver replied to Mahdi's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Personally i'm just peeved at the concept because it means it's gonna cost a bomb for my habbits... I generally play a different game every day, sometimes several a day, It's ok for those of you who only really play one game, but if i am going to have to pay a monthly fee for every single game i want to play then geez! It's gonna ruin me. I'm gonna have to stop my gaming habbits. Why am i so upset at having to cut down many games? Well the reason is because i am an up and coming game designer, i have 7 fully documented game designs along with artwork and 3d model grids and even fully documented and sketched and planned levels and storylines and many algorythms for certain events, for various forms of physics needed to be used for object behaviour etc... Now as a game designer.. To be successfull you need to know the public and what they want, you have to experiance all the games, you have to be critical of everything. Now i really can see several gaping holes in the gaming scene and i have designed new games, i have 2 games that will even spawn 2 new genres if succesfull... 'IF'... So if i can't continue to play loads and loads of games, then i'm not gonna get my research into the field and see these gaps, :'( I just hope i can do a good enough job. Also i hope that their campaigns will fail, i don't even like the concept of charging the players of my future games for monthly use. What do i want out of my games? I want the users to be able to pick up the game and relax and have fun, i want my games to be true to the meaning, true to the essence of gaming, i just hope i can make that differance. -

To reply to Acriku: The servers i run are not just good computers, they are pure dedicated servers, and before you despute what i say let me update you on my qualifications, Network+, CCIE and MCSE, So i know about networking and systems in avid detail. At the moment i am only running 1 game server for SOF2 and it stands on a 4MB line(that's Bytes not bits.. B=Byte, b=bit). These servers and line are with NSM Services in Greenwich London. Let me now illustrate the point i was making with the similarity to petrol... Petrol is needed, thus the companies capitalised on us. They started a campaign and threw us a hook, we took the bait again and again and the price skyrocketed. For a real eye opener in this 'Economic War' and to understand how people have been duped goto this link and read the e-mail i recieved... http://www.team-uki.co.uk/reaver/petrol.txt If gamers give in to this campaign they are enforcing then the cost will rise and rise and rise until only the rich can play. The MAIN POINT however is: You will not be able to afford to play multiple games!!! Hardcore Gamers will cease to exist. Prices will rise. Only the rich can play. Ask yourself this.. Who were games initially aimed at? -> Kids... now kids are the biggest buyers of games.. how are parents going to be able to afford to pay for all these games for their kids and the bills etc.. Sure.. I will cope, i'm a computer engineer so if needed i can rake money in, but what about all those family's where the dad is a milkman and the mum works at the local shop etc? Honest trades but they don't pay well. Stop and think what this is doing to our economy. It's getting to the point only the rich can do anything worthwhile.. University's are for the rich, Games are gonna be for the rich, Cars will be for the rich. What about the poor? people undermine those who do smaller jobs such as farming and building etc.. where would the rest of us be without them? The corporates in our society are alienating the poor more and more every day, i swear due to pig headed leaders the world might see some civil war starting in the future, the rich vs. the poor. Some might say i am going over the top now, but sit back and think.. am i? Some people like to use the phrase "Live for the moment", They don't worry about the future, but then again who wins a game of chess? The person who can see the most moves ahead to lure his enemy into a false sence of security. Don't think about what this campaign will do to start with.. think about what will happen if it works.. think about the chain reaction that will occur. It's common sence... -

I don't know all about the games you speak of but i have one view on it... I am a true hardcore gamer, i play many many games often. Also for most games that i play online i have my own servers etc... So would these games still charge if you set up your own servers? If so it's complete lunacy. Perhaps they will not allow you to create your own servers, ok it's fair enough if you play on their servers then you pay.. however they should give you the choice, but if they do so then people will play on public servers for free, unless everyone who runs a server decided to do pay per play too. Now i ocme to my main point... If this trend continues then what does it mean? A hardcore gamer like myself playing 30+ games often within each week, well imdagine several years in the future and those 30 games are all the newest and best games out, and i have payed for each game to own it and then pay each month for each game!? Just consider what that means.... it's outrageous. If this happens it will mean people must dedicate to only as many games as they can afford. This will lead to a customer shortage for many companies, as people will become more cautious as to what they buy, i for instance buy every new game that sounds good, but i would have to stop and carefully consider how good the games are, i would have to see them in action to decide if it's worth my money. This campaign is doomed to fail if people can understand the consequences, but it's rare for people to stop and think nowadays and i am sure a multitude of muppets will still go out and buy the games and their campaign will be a success because people couldn't stop and think. If everyone wants a perfect example i illustrate the problem with petrol! Now if you think about it you will see a similar structure, i'll make another post on it another time so that you may understand how thigns are going, i think i've written enough for most of you to simply skip this post but it contains many valid points. -
An Emp Player with *Real* Bad Manners

Nav you did worse to me and i have the screenshots to prove it, you can't critisize someone for something you do yourself. -
Downgrade the $#)@ing Inkvine!!!!!!!
Soul_-_Reaver replied to Navaros's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Nav i clearly told you how to defend against it and once again yuo ignore the information. Then you have the audasidy to critisize us!? Nav you have never beaten me, I have never cheated, all you say is complete rubbish, how could you destroy those who have replied with help? To do that would be unjust and rather stupid, especially with your background. I couldn't believe i saw you make another post like this.. I have seen the following complaints from you. Complaining about: 1) Pathfinding 2) Refineries 3) Harvestors 4) Minos 5) All infantry 6) Inkvines 7) Air drones 8) House IX and i'm sure you have complained about others.. and the title of your posts are always the same type.. "Downgrade the 'some cursing' 'whatever'. And every time people tell you how to deal with the situations, you throw it back in their face and say they are stupid or cheat or are dishonourable. Why? Why i ask you? You can't think fro yourself in the game, the community thinks for you and you spit at the community for helping you. I was right when i said so long ago... you are a parasite on the community, is there any wonder people voice their opinions of you? With the way you treat us all? I thought you would have learnt after Gob banned you on the old forums, but you still haven't learnt your lesson. *sigh* -
Downgrade the $#)@ing Inkvine!!!!!!!
Soul_-_Reaver replied to Navaros's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Here wo go again.. looking like the old boards. Nav.. Yeah units sometimes trip over others but hey... don't just put loads of units there for your defence Nav. Each race has a long range unit, why should Harc be rid of theirs? It's a stupid thing to say. The way to get around your problem is to use an intelligent formation for your defence. And especially scouts, with the inkvines long range chances are it will get first shot off, then if your mino's get hit they will return fire if on guard.. but don't have units that will block them.. it makes sence. Also try using fedakyn's, i always plant a few in odd spots infront of my defence and put them on guard.. i place them to the sides a little so they don't just get run over and they take out long range units for me quite well. You gotta start using your brain to find ways around problems Nav, I'd hate to see how you handle problems in real life... geez.. -
I run the other board, and if i felt the communities would get along i'd shut it.. well not shut it, i'd use it for other means, but i only started it because of all the troubles on the old forum, the community needed to be administered so i made that board, i was oblivious to this one. Seems a fair few like the board and so i'm still keeping it open for now. Might do a little reformatting though since i wish to merge it with my Counterstrike and Soldier of fortune 2 communites, amongst others. Anyway if you want a look to see what it's like it's at http://www.ukgameservers.co.uk I hope Gobalopper doesn't mind that link, since i am in no way wanting to take any members.. Just saying it since you didn't know about it. All in all i feel FED2k has the better grounds since it's been around for a while and ironed out troublemakers, i've only just gotten to the end of that. I'm sorry about the neccesity to register to see the forums but i had to do that due to a few troublemakers i banned who kept trying in vain every attempt they could to gain access to the forums.. short of notifying their ISP's due to them having dynamic ip's it was either i do that so that i can ban account names rather than ISP's or make even bigger trouble for them by sending the logs of their access violations to thier ISP's and i'm not that mean. :-/

Emperor Clans = Pointless because no one plays 2v2
Soul_-_Reaver replied to Navaros's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Here's a thought for some of you.... Why not do like people do in practically every other game.. seek those you wish to play, find their contact details and contact them arranging a date and time to play... voila you get to play some opponents and don't have to wait around for ages? -
Westwood - Make Two Clan Ladders for Emperor!!!
Soul_-_Reaver replied to Navaros's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
If they were to make 2 ladders like that, which by the way would give them bad publicity i.e. critics will say "Westwood hosts cheats and lamers" And i guarentee someone will label them that, no matter if it is for the good of the game, but who has the right to say who belongs where, Nav, for all your complaints at the game prospects, where others just play and get around things and actually think of ways to beat the things you moan about, how could you for one expect to play in the "real ladder" when you are as lame as some of the people you critisize Nav? No i'm not trying to get at you here, but Nav please read what you are typing, can you not see the lunacy in your complaints? It's easy to control multiple adv carryalls, i use it all the time, you can select all of them and then send them on their way using alt+ctrl, but before you send them you assign them numbers, then when they are all in flight you put your camera view on enemies base and press 1 through 9 and select where you want each one to drop. If you send 9 that is. But can you not see that if others can do it without problems, and for you to complain.. it makes you look ridiculous. It'd be bad enough if you only complained like that a few times but you do it over and over and over.
