How long is someone usually out for ? And what stops him from making another nick, like he accuses everyone else of doing in Emperor, and re-entering ?
-
Thanks dude, this is the closest I am comming to solving this one. This would be the third person to connect via this IP...but it is a dynamic IP...Argh ! I will try almost anything at the moment. Thanks Kindjal

How does the server know that I am connected with 3 or more accounts ? Is it meant to be 3 per IP ? Or 3 acounts full stop ? I am slightly confused. Could you direct me to a place where I can read more about this please ? Maybe Mr Olaf van der Spek can shed some light on this ?
-
You are possibly right, I think I have made more than 2 accounts on one email address. But is that what you mean ? Or do you mean 3 accounts connected at any one time ? In case it is the first one, I will try making another account with another email address and testing that. By the way, brothers account works on my computer, so I am not too shure about this... I will get him to do a full uninstall and reinstall thingy. If not, he can stay on WOL and redirect newbies to XWIS !

Thanks Atomic. I have tried it but ith no luck. Will spend more time on this, as it is very annoying now. Even though not many people are on XWIS now, it is the challenge thing... >:(

Sounds like the same problem I had on XP. It would install, load a bit, then kick me back to desktop. I used this to fix it... http://www.dune2k.com/?page=files-emperor&show=patches You will need to uninstall it first.

Can you give a little bit more information...when does it crash ? Does it install ok ? Does it crash after a certain amount of time ? Any other problems with any other games ? Direct X test run ok ? The more information you give, the better. I am not aware of any special patches myself -
I cant get E. BFD to work in XP.

Sarcastic: Nav, forgive the rest of the world for not being as good as they should be. No...why should anyone have to apologies for not being as good as you think they should be, and even that, in a GAME ! It is a game, thats like Beckham (I am in England, where football [American: "Soccer"] is very popular and Beckham is VERY popular) screwing about every other football player being crap in the local park. Thats plain stupid. This is a game, and games, usually, by non profressionals are played for fun. Not about just winning, that can be a bonus. Personally I play this because I had Dune II on Amiga, loved that game to bits. Grabbed this game when I could. I am sorry I missed the chance to play online when there was a bigger community. But I still want to learn how to be a better player, maybe be able to beat people one day that I cannot beat today (Alchemi, look out !

He has used the recommended HOSTS file, and has no luck. So its not the HOSTS file. He has not got SP1 on XP. He also has norton 2003, but then so do I, so I am not sure why that would be a problem (some people seem to think XP and Norton 2k3 can be a problem, but I seem to be fine with both). At a loss at the moment. Does anyone know what the XWIS server is doing after about 6 seconds ? Any checks or anything ?
-
Hey, Nav, can you publish your "The Quitting Newbie List"* please, so that others can benefit from it. If you already have published it, can you tell me where to read it from ? *

Slow games of Emp are the most strategic of all
erjin999 replied to Navaros's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
Hey, I like to think I am impartial here. For a beginner, it is easier for me to learn from the better players, but the difference between the better players and the "n00bs" is the fact that we can't cope at the high speeds most games are played at. Say for example, in a 1 on 1 vs...I dunno, Mordus, I will perform 3 actions in the time he would perform say 4...he is quicker, more decisive, and can react almost instinctively, something I would not be used to. In a slower speed game, I would be able to play, like Rostok says, on a level-ish playing field. If I am right in what I think Nav is trying to say (when he said no1 attacks for the first X mins), he is looking to play a more drawn out game, not slower speed, but one which lasts longer (but plays at full frame rate), then I agree, strategy would play a BIGGER part. [Note: doesn't mean there is no strategy in quicker games] Does the ability to make quick decisions and carry them out quickly separate the elites from the rest ? Whether it -
X FIRE & MSN Messenger - Add Your Nicks Here
erjin999 replied to Brennq's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
I have gone through this topic and added everyone to my list as most of you should have noticed. I have decided to make it easier for anyone else that want to add everyone from this list by posting a contacts list they can import. I have not tested it on Windows msgr, but am quite shure it will work. I have set my name to show as my WOL nick, which should make it easier to work with the 30+ contacts in this file. Maybe, if its possible, other might do the same...? The list contains everyone I could see in this post to THIS point. Anyway, here it is...(sorted alphabetically) alchemi2@hotmail.com Atomic245@hotmail.com brennquirynen@hotmail.com chipthebrick04@hotmail.com cybopache@hotmail.com dreadhamster@hotmail.com Dunenewt88@hotmail.com ed2810@hotmail.com emperorskorpija@hotmail.com erjin999@hotmail.com garnik888@hotmail.com graham24519282@yahoo.co.uk homofyren@msn.com jakesrun@hotmail.com jgjstolk@kabelfoon.nl k7j@msn.com kyle001400@hotmail.com leosard@hotmail.com MozaredTFT@hotmail.com mcdid@msn.com necroticon_2003@hotmail.com plaaaer2001@hotmail.com pointybum@hotmail.com PS501@Hotmail.com SalamaScy@Hotmail.com skr5150@hotmail.com slipjacker@msn.com thedozeismyally1@hotmail.com XxBryoramaxX@hotmail.com EDIT: I have added new players, and have removed some of the people who I think no longer play... and here is the contacts file...(rename to .cct to import from inside msgr) [attachment archived by Gobalopper] -
Must get sample of Phil Veale DNA ! Must clone ! Many new games similar to Emperor ! Mwaahaha ! lol. If it is as good as this game, I 'd get it.

Changing the serial in the registry ?
erjin999 replied to Seb_Lz's topic in Emperor: Battle for Dune
I heard a saying once, ahem: If an old scientist says it can be done, it probably can. If an old scientist says it cannot be done, he probably doesnt have the vision. Plus, thats basic cracking/reverse engineering, isn't it ? Maybe not basic to do it, but basically thats what reverse engineering is about in this kind of scenario. -
It would be useful like brennq said in another post to be able to see who is online from INSIDE the game, not on the web (there is a page that lists who is online [maybe XWIS only ?]). I have been online many times, hosting, around midday GMT, and am not shure if i am the ONLY person on this planet there, or if there are 15 people online, all playing games and all I have to do is wait. I have found that from about 9:00 GMT onwards, until I sleep

My brother is also having the same problem. He has a setup that works fine with WOL. He is using the same XWIS exe file to change servers as I am (it all works for me). His hosts file IS different from mine, but contains the correct line in it. It connects to XWIS, then after a few seconds, bombs out. I also know of at least 1 other person who has the same problem. I will try to replace his hosts file with mine, and see if that works. By the way, we are both using WinXP, emp V1.9 and...cant think of anything else

We cannot ditch WOL unless EA redirect any visitors to their servers to XWIS automatically. When I started playing online, if I had not been TOLD about XWIS & FED etc, I would have assumed everyone stopped playing online and I would have gone off in a sob. And what a loss to the community THAT would have been !
