The problem is that after a while (time may vary) it seems that for Internet Explorer users, images may stop loading. This thread is to find out how and why.

So far troubleshooting has indicated that it seems to be due to images in signatures.

If you've encountered the problem, please leave your name in this thread.

What you can try, is to modify your profile, change show images in signatures to No, clear cookies and files, close your browser, restart it again. Browse for a few minutes, modify your profile, change the show images in signatures to Yes again, clear all cookies and files, close the browser again.

In the first case this solved it for me, until I logged in as guest. Now the problem seems permanent.

More to come...

the attached zipfile has a screenshot in rather bad, no a horrible resolution and a TXT file of the source at that time. It's from this topic. Page 25 keeps looking ok, where 24 and 23 display the missing pictures barely shown in the JPG.

The wierd thing, I went back to my own PC .. looked at it using Opera and my own picture didn't display in one of my posts on that page. Wanted to make a screenshot of it and while I use another TAB to browse another forum and one to reply to this one, the time I took the TAB back holding my missing icon it looked ok. [ looks like an X-file episode doesn't it ? ;) ]

Now typing this and playing with Opera, guess what I got. . yep. . Gobalopper's missing picture. Took a screenshot [ at a much better res. sorry for the things I edited out for my own security. . took the screenshot before it was to late ;) ] .. . anyway, a litte copy and pasting later. . .back to Opera an dthe image was loaded on the page. [ it wasn't still loading the first time ].

forum.zip contains :

forum.txt - the source of screenshot forum.jpg

forum.jpg screenshot taken with IE displaying multiple [ on the whole page ] missing icons.

forum2.jpg - displaying Opera with 1 missing image on the whole page. Later corrected.

In short. . . cashing problem or something simular ?

Not linking the correct picture from local cash that should be there and thus leaving it as "missing" ?

note: both pictures have been taken from clients behind the same proxy, so changes the page wasn't recieved fully or something like that isn't verry likely. .moreover because it's mine ;)

Anyway. . the annoiance continues. . ..

just a small piece of information more, the problem persists in my pc and also happens at university's pc.

edit (at home) - sorry but this is getting really annoying, most of other sites I visit don't load the images if I happen to visit this site first.

edit # 2 - I deleted all cookies, enter the site again as guest, but it indicates I am still online, I've tried several times updating but it showed me as an online member when I was actually as a guest, I presume the bug is account related.

This is what happens when images are not being loaded. Look at the progress bar underneath my browser. It just stays like that. When that starts to happen, smileys won't load when I try to reply and after a while no image will load.

Zamboe, I logged (manually) out and couldn't see myself being logged in..[attachment archived by Gobalopper]

And the same site after I cleared the cookies.

Btw Zamboe, Without logout mnually, I deleted my cookies and came back as guest and saw myself logged in alos. You need to manually logout to be sure that you're logged out. Although it's weird, cause there shouldn't be any evidence that it's you after you cleared cookies and files...[attachment archived by Gobalopper]

First image you showed is the same I get when it goes wrong.

And your are being identified by your brouwser ID .. no need for a cookie to do that. ;)

Close the IE you are using and start another if you don't like it. Or block all identification it sends to the net. [ in case of IE ]

This bug is utterly annoying.

So, in order to solve it I'll mention what I have done and didn't work so far ,

1. Increased size for temp files up to 500 MB didn't work.

2. Clean cookies, temp files, using IE6 option menu and manually, works for a few clicks but then bug comes again.

3. Using Opera takes time but it keeps happening.

4. Turned on and Turned off the option to show images at signatures, makes no difference, images don't load.

btw, in all the cases the bug is not only related to fed2k but to all the sites I visit if I came to fed2k first.

I am running out of ideas, however I think the bug is account related. I'll try from Linux and let you know what happens.

Which version of Opera are you using zamboe ?

And could you look at the first page that id being display when the error starts. Does that page contain a post by DukeLeto ?

[ if not mayby there is a patern in the profiles on the page not loading the first time ]

Hello I beleive my IE is version 6 with almost all updates and service packs[shudders]

attached is a screen shot of me looking at what version my IE is. I assume you dont need the internet to check that and load any graphics for that. ATM I am downloading 7 mb of winxp updates(they come up with one everyday :'( )

Also notice how in the backround there are no avatars..hmm

But for me closing and restarting browser works for me for about 1 minute(doing nothing else) then it starts to stop loading images altogether.

[insert swearing here]

Now my updates are not even downloading...so most of my internet stops altogether UNLESS I somehow tell it to start going again (by closing and restarting whatever)[attachment archived by Gobalopper]

I just changed the load sig images also and so far it is working. I do remember now looking through threads and it trying to load sig images (like exatreides flag) and then all would stop.

If everyone else changes that AND restarts browser (I had to for it to take effect) then say what happens whether it works or not.

All time I had images at signatures disable and I still have problems.

EDIT.

Sorry for keep posting bugs instead of solutions, but.

I've tried to see a jpg file I uploaded in a topic, unable to load the jpg file. I was using IE 6. I went to Opera 6.05 and my system crashed completly when I tried to perform the same function. I pressed the reset button and got back to W98 after rebooting. I make sure to clean all the cookies, temp files, I came back to fed2k as a guest, first thing : I still appearead as online, images didn't load and I couldn't see the pic I posted.

I now see all the images with IE.

However, otherwise I can't see any image. Sometimes I can see them, but most times not.

So I too have the problem.

But I thought it was my IE which was runnin weird. But it seems not like that

It was just a general comment, when you get the first page it goes wrong with, look at the profiles on that page. . if it is a problem with signature images mayby it's just related to a few signatures and not the general signature settings.

Is the problem related to signature settings in general or just with one / several signatures ?

I havn't tried IE myself sind last time, and if I don't play with Opera [ 7.11 patched ] to much there are no problems there even with sig. images on. So at this point I don't really know if changing it would effect it from my point.
