I dont know why they have the media in this war, as it doesn't help the U.S. military any, it just gives away information that the Iraqies may not have known/overlooked. Also the pictures of formations of tanks etc, and they even said that 1000 paratropers landeed in airbase north of Baghdad (or northern Iraq).

Doesnt this hinder the War efforts?

Sure there embedded jounalists etc, but do they belong in the war other than for historical sake?

They give too much info about what the military will/can do. Maybe there is subliminal messages in the news about it, or maybe they are feeding Saddam false info.

What do you think about the media?

Maybe the war is all about T.V. ratings, who knows? (if you do say so please)

My first Political (kinda) thread, hope you enjoy.

*note: doesnt my avatar seem out of place for me? (To me it does, and hopefully after everyone knows there are new ones I will revert back.)

Most of the information given about the quantity and quality of all things in war are normally not to be trusted.....even the nmber of casualties reported will be different when u compare the media's edition and the actual edition, the actual one is the one that only the high officers/generals/MinisterOfDefenese will know

Embedded reporters have a strict guideline to what they can report. They can't report their position, objective, or mission-at-hand. I think it's great that they are in the war, it allows the public to realize the realities of war.

Having served in the US military I think it's a bad idea tactically to allow this level of reporting. However, it is very obvious that the Iraqi military has a very limited capability and does not pose a serious threat to US forces. In light of this I can see the benefit of first hand unbiased reporting of the day to day actvities of the war. We are seeing how the US treats prisoners and we are also getting very up to date info on how the war is progressing. As Acriku said the reporters have very defined guidlines of what can or cannot be said on current war operations. There is the possibility of a disclosure of sensitive information, but until that happens I think it is working out well for now.

Media should be a neutral side of war, reporting how it goes. Altough we all know that CNN talks still about US progress and al-Jazira about their "brutality". But they have to be there. People should know what are their fellow citizens doing on other side of the world.

Al Jazeera's website was hacked and blocked to prevent people from being able to see the pictures of the civilians. I think Al Jazeera has a right to show the other side of this conflict.

Hackers hacked into that website and put the image of America in red white and blue colors, with the letters "Let Freedom Ring" below it ;D It also redirects users who try to login to porn. Childish, but funny as hell.

Well, they're hackers so they hack :P

Maybe we'll see the same thing on CNN's website in a few days. I remember that Israel and Palestinian websites were both attacked by opposite side's hacker at some time.
