Well, I don't know if you've heard of the Elizabeth Smart case, so I'll fill you in:

About 9 months ago, 15-year-old E. Smart disappeared from her home in Slat Lake City, Utah. This sparked one of the most publicized missing persons cases in the US. (Second only to the Joshua Bryant case, which you can read about here. He lived really close to me, and my mother knew his parents. :O) Anyway, they had a suspect, but they couldn't find any evidence to convict him on. Well, the moron was walking down a busy street holding Elizabeth, and they nabbed him.

You can read about this story here.

Husband of sister of my cmotre vanished before about 7 years. I didn't know him personally, but today he's still missing. Who should hunt down taxidrivers?

This might sound silly, but why does the news cover such things? I mean people get napped all the time.

The real question is. Do you remember that dog that got traped on ice? I MEAN C'MON A DOG! dogs freze to death everday. people starve in china. Wonder how many people died while they were showing a poor dog traped on ice.eek2.gif

Anyway i'm happy they found her to. Hard to belive people could conceive of such a thing as kidnapping someone. Cruel world. :(

That's absolutely astounding. After ONE month I would have given up hope, let alone nine. Unbelievable that she is home alive and well. I'm so happy for her and her family especially.

Police found pictures of the alleged abductor with someone they think is Smart dressed in a white veil and robes with her face covered. Apparently this is common clothing that polygomist men dress the women in. Rather disturbing...

I think one of the reasons it was publicized so much is because of the manner in which she was kidnapped. She was taken from her bedroom at night at gunpoint (according to her younger brother I believe). That's pretty much the nightmare kidnapping, so it's no surpise it was all over the news.

yes, it was probably on the news because of the point ACE made, as well as, unfortunately the truth is that it is very rare for someone who has been kidnaped to be found ... alive that is

...it is disturbing these things happen...

hey! I am the king of topic names! lol ;)

yeah it is pretty amazing. As soon as I heard that she was alive, I knew that the guy that kidnapped her must have been even more insane than I took him for. Usually if a man or woman takes a child and keeps them alive like that, it is done usually for reasons other than sexual or emotional gratification. thank goodness though that she is alive.

Yeah, I hear he used his twisted view of religion as a weapon agienst her.

But in a way maybe its better that she was brainwashed. because she stayed alive this long.
