Zopwx2
if a lasgun/shield cause a huge explosion. whats stopping a lone phycho with a lasgun from taking out a whole army. Especially if he is not affiliated with anyone so there is no one to retaliate against?
TMA_1
oh it was done in the books, but usually they would find out the house of the attacker and then that house would be in deep crap.lol
ken124578
What would happen then? they're already being butchered by eachother.
Emperor Harkonnen
how large are those explotions anyway? does anyone know in megatons?
Mahdi
Thsoe explosions are completly unpredictable. A suicide bomber would be rpetty stupid to do this, he might end up just killing himself and no one else, or he might blow up the entire freakin planet.TMA, sheild/lasgun explosions are not banned. They are merely dangerous because it is difficult to tell them apart from nuclear explosions.
Emperor Harkonnen
no radiation?? :'(
Caid Ivik
So, effect of laser/shield contact should depend on their power. Personal shield should blow up one house, but when one un-awared Saurdakar fired on palace shield...
Emperor Harkonnen
didn't the fremens use a lazgun against some ornithopter with shield in Dune and they didn't get hurt at all.

As stated before, it is completly unpredictable.Harkonnen: Duncan planted a shield where Harkonnen ornithopters were using lasguns, then retreated to save Paul and Jessica. Anathema
Wouldn't the size of the explosion depend on the amount of mass that is shielded?
Dunenewt
It is not unpredictable. It depends on the frequency of the shield. The higher the frequency the bigger the explosion
Emperor Harkonnen
what is the point in high frequented shields? are those better than low frequented shields?

They are merely dangerous because it is difficult to tell them apart from nuclear explosions. that is what I meant. There have been plans of that happening to push a setup on a house that it used atomics. I did not know about the unpredictability though. Zopwx2
Dammit none of you have answered my question! this is a glaring flaw in frank herberts vision of wwarfare!!!! One suicide lasgunner can take out huge numbers of people! and its much eaisier to send in suicied lasgunners than build an army! or maybe he is just a physco
Zopwx2
and if he is a mercinary terrorist they can never find a house that is responisble. Maybe he is not even affiliated with anyone just a vigilante? then what!
Mahdi
Caid, where in the dune novels does it say it dpends on the frequency of the shield that determines the size of the explosion? Closest I can think of is when Duncan plants a shield turned up to highest frequencey. It never says that the frequnce effects the explosion. It is stated multiple times that the explosions are unpredictable.Zop: Your question has been answered. Look up.
Dunenewt
It was me mwho said it (why can't anyone remember who I am) and I can't remember where I saw it I just know it and it would make sence anyway

But truth is that shield-laser reactions weren't many times mentioned. I remember just that one from Sardaukar assault of Arakeen.
