There was a topic about this a while back, but I thought I'd start it up again :)

1) The teachings of Jesus, "love thy neighbour" and such, why were they only given in the New Testament and not part of the commandments Moses received?

2) Why is the Jewish resting day on saturday, but the christian one on sunday?

I learned this...

In the year 325, Constantine (a non-baptized Pagan) convened the Council of Nicea to settle disputes in the Church. The council changed Jesus from man to God in the flesh, they changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, and the Passover was changed to Easter.
All of this was decided from having votes on the changing :O

Also,

Apologist Richard Sisson, in his book, Answering Christianity's Most Puzzling Questions (Volume 1), states,

"In fact, after the death of Jesus a whole flood of books that claimed to be inspired appeared … Disputes over which ones were true were so intense that the debate continued for centuries. Finally in the fourth century a group of church leaders called a council and took a vote. The 66 books that comprised our cherished Bible were declared to be Scripture by a vote of 568 to 563."

5 votes! If those 5 voted differently, the bible would not be the same at all. Wow...

Actually, those aren't the true answers to those questions, Acriku...

For one thing, the fact that Jesus was God in the flesh is mentioned in the Gospels, which were written at least 225 years before the Council of Nicea. (or even longer)

As for the day of Sabbath, we celebrate it on Sunday because that is the day of Jesus's Ressurection: the next day after the Jewish Sabbath, which is Saturday.

Now, since there in no way to know which was the original first day of the week, any day could do just as well for Sabbath, as long as it's one in seven. We chose Sunday to honour Christ.

And finally, Richard Sisson is just plain wrong. Does he actually have any proof for his claims?

Wrong, Sabbeth means Saturday. It was changed for an explanation click here the Seventh Day Adventus(if the last one is spelled correctly) however have went after the doctrine of the sabbeth day.

The hebrew law dictated that you must love your neighbor. Love in the aspect of respecting that person and treating them with all the dignity that you would treat your family. The ancients all over the world had a concept that is foriegn to us in this age, which is hospitality. The cultural connection to hospitality was so strong at times that you would treat your guest with greater honors then you would for your own family.

The jews had a different time system than the other cultures around them. They believed that God finished his work on saturday, which was the day he "rested". This is why the sabbath is kept holy and why practicing jews always rest on that day. It was changed to sunday because of christs ressurection "easter sunday". Of course this wasent practiced by the early church and became the mainstream day or worship of the catholic church. Though true christians worship every day and should study the bible whenever they get the chance.

Before Jesus (OT) the relation between the man and God (Yhave) had God as the center of the relation.

Since Jesus (NT) the relation between the man and God changed completly, now it has the center in the MAN, because Jesus was a Man and God at the same time and he became man to save us all, that's why on his mandates is "love thy neighbour".
