You haven't seen <Your Country> until you See....?

Since our member map shows ppl from around the world, I would like to hear from each person to answer this question:

If someone who has never seen your country before were to visit for a day, what is the one thing that you would recommend they see?

You can only choose ONE thing. Make it something about your country that you just cant find anywhere else. Historic sites, landmarks, architectural marvels, ect. Canadians say one thing about your province. If you live in the US, say one thing about the US (not a state).

Example Canadians:

You haven't seen Quebec until you've seen....?

Example US:

You havent seen the United States until you've seen...? (not individual states- who cares about seeing Idahoe)

Example Everyone else:

You haven't seen <your country> until you've seen...?

Remember just one thing! I know you may have many things but remember that this make believe trip, someone is visiting only for one day and wont have time to see a bunch of stuff.

Ok me first:

If someone came to the US for the first time, I recommend they see the Grand Canyon. it is breath taking. When you stand at the edge of a 5500 ft drop overlooking a vast network of immense canyons, you get the sense that you are but a tiny speck of dust in a vast desert. I don't know if there's anything quite like it on earth.

You havn't seen Alberta until you've seen the mountains. From a high view of Lake Lousie, backcountry heli-skiing around the serene moutnains of banf, or standing on the highest peak in sight looking DOWN on the clouds, to the southern mountains of Waterton Park where the flattest of plains and praries meet massive, snow-covered rocky mountains without so much as a single foothill, aptly named "Where the prarie meets the mountains".

Driving in was one of the neatest thing I've ever seen because there was a farm with cows and horses literally right beside a mountain. Farm, farm, farm, mountian. The mountainst aren't that big to start off, but it's still really cool to see.

There's also an American side called Glacial National Park in northern Montana.

man dude, that is so cool. I am a total nature freak. lol. i don't know what it is but that is the kind of stuff that i would drive a 3 day trip to go see.

the only thing I wonder: Is that a picture of some guy's private property or can people actually go there?

Hmm I don't know where that particular shot was taken but there are certainly places you can go just like it. I believe the Park workers purposely made road-side stops where you could get out and walk through the prarie, gazing up at the mountains. The best shot I've seen (I was unable to find it) was a panorama from a helicopter hovering over the golden prarie looking towards the mountains.

Another great thing to see while your there is the Prince of Wales Hotel. It sits atop pretty much the only bluff there is in Waterton.

You havent seen western washington if you havent been to Bellingham. It is a beautiful city. One of the nicest, cleanest, resort accessable, and all around amazing of all cities in the U.S.

You haven't seen the United States until you've seen New York City, the capital of Industry. Home to millions of people. Home of traffic jams, and the famous friendly attitude of New Yorkers. And who can forget all the homeless people laying in plain sight everywhere imaginable, or how a friendly drug addict will threaten your life to get drug money? And the lovely burroughs, like the Bronx, or what little you could see of it behind all the barred windows.

Now despite the cutting criticism of New York above, I was impressed with it. I especially liked the UN and The World Trade Center Towers (was lucky enough to visit while they were still there). Oh and the street salesmen...never quit!

heh that's pretty wierd emp. Excellent choice on the Grand Canyon BTW. It's truly spectacular. I remember when I saw it I was totally blown away. Sometimes you can't even tell how big it is, like I was gazing at a rocky hill near the center that I assumed was no more than a few hundred meters away...but it was actually fourteen miles. :O Crazy...

near where i live (sorta) is carlsbad caverns , which is a kool place i think.... it's , as u can probly tell, a large cave that they have built a path into... except for the bat cave, they dont' allow people in the bat cave itself... but u can see the batcave from outside at a distance

i've only been there a couple of times, because it is kind of in the middle of nowhere, as everything is in New Mexico, but o well

if you are ever in new mexico i suggest u see the tram in albuquerque on the sandia mountains (part of rocky mountain chain)

and the carlsbad caverns , in carlsbad obviously
