Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 LivingForADay, thanks !Look below, the comparison for drivers between your system (which has probs) and number6's output (which runs okay):btw, both comps are running win98...Number6 output:Sound Card : Creative SB Live! ValueSound Driver : emu10k1.vxdDriver Version : 4.11.01.0711Yours:Sound Card : Creative SB Live! ValueSound Driver : emu10k1.vxdDriver Version : 4.06.00.0624Download the latest driver:http://www.soundblaster.com/drivers/welcome.asp?reg=0&OS=Win98∏=sblive&Select=Get+Files&x=66&y=5scroll down and download this driver: sblw9xup.exe Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Again, another comp having files of directx from the year 1999 ... *starts to wonder*...Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Thanks Odysseus, I will, but still feel like that spanish dude (like spanish dude better then Don Quixote)... :DNyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 -X-ray, are you still planning to go to ME ?I know in one of your earlier posts you mentioned it. I know your sister has ME, so might want to try her copy as the game works on her system...Nyar...
Guest dune01 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Nyar, I will try the skirmish mode sometime this weekend. Also, I wanted to add this. When I ran my DXDIAG, I went through and did all of the audio and video tests. They all ran and passed.
Guest Odysseus Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the solution to most problems is update directX, update drivers, update WinMP. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the above. That failing, go to WW online site and read the ENTIRE faq. Still to no avail, email tech support. While wating on tech support, post the problem in this thread but understand that this is user-to-user help ONLY.
Guest dune01 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Odysseus, don't know if your post was for me or not, but I have done everything that you said. So I am waiting on WW tech support and any help that anybody in here can give.
Guest Odysseus Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 sorry about the timing, wasn't towards you. was just trying, for my own clarity, to get a general outline for the steps of troubleshooting.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 For the GeForce users...I've noticed that all of you have upgarded their nvdisp.drv diver to the latest version available. Myself am using a lower driver and as NVIDIA doesn't seem to distinguish between ME and 98 I would suggest to try two things:1) Get the latest CERTIFIED driver for v12.41Available here: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows9x(look at the left, there are 2 driver options, one microsoft certified and the other ain't).or....2) get the older driver I'm using, which is:Video Driver : nvdisp.drvDriver Version : 4.13.01.1210I do not know if it matters, but who knows..Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Thanks Dune01, I hope skirmish works, cause that would make things more similair... :DNyar...
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Nyar, here is the reason why the date of the directx files doesnt matter (that of course if the files are at the same version):I just played a full mission without the game freezing with the 1.04 version. So the problem wasn't caused by Directx itself (or the date of it's files). I would have installed the 1.05 if I could, but I can't so I'm going to stick to the 1.04 at the moemnt. Number6, thank you so much!! :(
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 wait here for a moment.....*takes a deep breath*...you're able to play campaign mode now ?Nyar...
number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Killwithsound, I don't think your problem lies with the IRQ's. If windows does not flag shared IRQ's as a problem, then the device should work. Sometimes certain devices want to be a specific IRQ, don't ask me why. Anyway, does your manual for your video card say anything about preferred IRQ's? If it does you should do your best to set it to the preferred setting. Otherwise, inform tech support that you tried their suggestion and the results are the same. Are any of your devices flagged (Usually an exclamation point) as a problem under start->settings->control panel ->System-> Device Manager tab?If not it does not sound like a resource/IRQ problem.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 As note for the GeForce users..I've checked the drivers for my Asus GeForce 3 and they do NOT have the new NVIDIA driver on their site, while for example Visiontek does. Does Asus know something we don't (yet) ?*thinking about all the voodoo stuff*...Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 btw Alley, about the DirectX issue... I do not know if a driver for a graphics card is also isntalling directx stuff. I would say not, but not sure. Fact still remains, that everyone with files older then 2000, still experiences problems in one way or another...Nyar...
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 It just a coincidence. If you would check you will see that all of those who only have files that are from 2000 and older are ME users (could also be 2000 users but I'm not sure). if you will really check all the users who the game work for, and use Windows98, you will see that they too have files older than 2000.And btw, enjoy your weekend! 8)number6, have you ever tried using the 1.05 version? Were you able to install it? What OS language do you use? Was 1.05 also able to run Emperor fine? Was it also full of problems as 1.07?Thanks.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Alley, for the freezing movies try the know options behind the shortcut again:* you can add "+w" (without the quotes) to the Target line in the game's shortcut. This will force the game to preload each movie into memory before playing.* If you have a Voodoo card, you may experience display problems due to texture compression. To disable the texture compression, you will need to add "-C" (without the quotes) to the Target line in the game's shortcut.* If you are running two video cards, the game may choose the video card you do not wish to use. You can force it to use your alternate card by adding "-ALTVID" (without the quotes) to the Target line in the game's shortcut.* Also try the +v option. Still not sure what is does, but it helped out some before..Another thing you could try, is to reduce the cdrom cache option earlier in this thread...Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 btw, number6 is using english version of windows:Operating System: Microsoft Windows 98 (4.10, Build 1998) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) :)Nyar...
number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Nyar, You are doing a very thorough job, excellent work. alley_cat, I am glad that the 1.04 drivers are working for you as well. Like I said I have tried them all and this is the only set that I am truly happy with. Other 3D games that I have played with this set of drivers are: Deus Ex Shogun: Total War Homeworld Homeworld: Cataclysm Mech Warrier 4 (demo) Rollcage (demo) Ground Control (demo) Crimson Skies (demo) Earth 2150 Midtown Madness quake II GLQuake Star Wars: The Phantom MenaceI am sure there are lots of others, just can't think of all of them. I am not sure what could be causing the movies to freeze. :(
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Another thing Alley:As your system seems to be very similair to that of number6 his system, lowering the cd cache size might help:Number6 systems cd specs:----CDRom Info----------------------------------------------Cache size : 1238 KBYours:----CDRom Info---------------------------------------------- Cache size : 3840 KBWho knows, it might work now...Nyar...
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I, I just don't... don't know how... *sob*.. how the hell... how the hell it did...it did this fine this time and not on the other...other attempts *sob*...but ...but... but it worked!!!!!!! Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 What did the trick ?And why it works now, probably due to the new driver you've installed :DNyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 btw.. note to all usersTry the game first, BEFORE you upgrade drivers....Nyar...
