Nyarlathotep Posted March 27, 2002 Author Posted March 27, 2002 akamsg, first download and install the latest drivers for both your sound card and video card. The download the latest version of directx (8.1) and install it. Please do this in this order. Do NOT install directx 8.0 over 8.1, cause it'll mess up the directx files. When done, run dxdiag again and run all the tests. If all works, try to run EBFD again.."Doc" Nyar...

Nyarlathotep Posted March 27, 2002 Author Posted March 27, 2002 The latest Nvidia driver is 28.32. Make sure you download these..Drivers are outdated the day they come out (bluntly said). As new software comes out, new hardware with it.. There are many options of cards that are there, but not able to be utilized by the software. This is why new drivers come out, it enhances hardware capability.. "Doc" Nyar...

Guest Takar Posted March 27, 2002 Posted March 27, 2002 Well, Doc, it ran alittle smoother with +W, but it still locks up. It's just the single player missions it does it in though. I haven't tried multiplayer, but the skirmish runs fine.

Guest DaveK1981 Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 Nyar "Doc"I am noticing that this not only has the most recent additions than most topics in the forum but it also has 37 pages as of 03-27-02. So that is why I am gonna try here. If you want I can send you my diagnostics from dxdiag Nyar or I can find you anything else you might need. I just want this to work. I had this game running on another system but have since upgraded and run into the freezing problem I have read much about in the forums. Seems to be a fairly popular problem. I know how the game runs as it has worked for me in the past but I would rather not run it on the old system seeing that is has been gutted to fit the new one. Its specs are as follows:AMD Athalon 1.2GHz512 MB DDR RAMWin2K Pro2 20G hard drives (one as NTFS for my Win2K OS, the other as Fat32)NVIDIA Geforce 3 Ti 200 video cardCreative SBLive! Sound cardI have applied all the most recent updates for my bios, vid card, sound card, monitor, DVD-Rom, and anything else I might have found on-line that matched my system. If you want I can e-mail you my file with the info from the dxdiag testing. Just seems to take up a lot of room on the forum. I also did not look through the whole thing because it is 37 pages and quite frankly, I dont have the patients to look all through it. If there is a solution I should look at in here point me to it otherwise I will look forward to a response.
Nyarlathotep Posted March 28, 2002 Author Posted March 28, 2002 Dave, just post your dxdiag output here. Make sure you run the tests before you post it here.Could you also let me know what you upgraded on your system ?"Doc" Nyar...
Guest DaveK1981 Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 Ok, here it is. As for the upgrade, I did it to everything. Basically I built a whole new system. In fact there are only 3 things that stayed from my old system, the floppy drive, one HD, and the DVD-Rom.Here is the file info:------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 8/28/2002, 02:59:57 Machine name: MAIN Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195) Service Pack 2 Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: VIA694 System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~1200MHz Memory: 512MB RAM Page File: 87MB used, 1161MB availablePrimary File System: n/a DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881)DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.01.2600.0881 32bit Unicode------------DxDiag Notes------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Nyarlathotep Posted March 28, 2002 Author Posted March 28, 2002 Dave, I know if issues between VIA chipset and SBLive cards. Have you updated your VIA drivers ?Another question, do you have an onboard sound card/video card ? If so, is it disabled ?The 512mb, is it just one single module, or does it consist out of two 256mb ? If it consists out of two 256 modules, try to remove one and then start the game. If it doesn't work, try removing the other (and putting the first one you pulled out back in). When you do this, make sure you're grounded properly. If you haven't done so, make sure you have updated Win2K with the needed service packs..Keep me updated !"Doc" Nyar...
Guest DaveK1981 Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 Ok, I have just updated the via chipset again with the latest drivers. I do have an onboard sound card but it is disabled. I had a problem with that in another game. As for the memory I have only one stick of 512MB DDR RAM. And I have checked and double checked the windows updates to make sure I did not miss something. I am gonna try to play again so keep your fingers crossed.Dave
