djcid, for your information, it's located on the install disk and called "ez.exe". However, do not worry cause it will do no good. The program doesn't capture information properly while running Windows NT/2000/XP..

What I can advise you are the few obvious things first: updating drivers, run defrag.

Next to that, try running the game without your virus scanner running, see if it makes a difference. There's one thing I noted when formatting my pc yesterday (and having it reinstalled now), is that all seems to perform better, especially games running with less lag when playing online.

Did you already try some stuff ? If so what ? Also, try heading over to my webpage and see if some of the suff mentioned there helps you.. (www.xs4all.nl/~sascho)

Keep me updated.

hey nyar-

I've tried just about everything, and Emperor just simply won't work.

All the video is extremely choppy, and the in-game graphics are virtually non-existent.

Menus are also reeeally messed up, especially the in-game options menu. This goes for both campaign and skirmish.

I run XP on an HP with an AMD 1300 mhz.

Graphics card is an S3 Graphics ProSavage.

It works! Muhahahahahahahaa!!!

Thank you so much, nyar!

I updated my s3 graphics thing, and now I can finally play the game!! hooray!!

i also fixed the videos by adding that +W to the shortcut like westwood said to do (which was about to only thing they ever said that was helpful).

Thx again!

Ok, how bout this one? I tried skimming through the thousands of posts on this thread, but didn't see a similar problem.

Emperor locks or hangs on me, but ONLY after completing an online game. The game works perfect until the Victory message appears, at which point the game hangs and sound stutters for about 15-20 seconds. After that, the system resumes for about 5 seconds, then locks again.

I've tried just about everything I can think of from drivers to os reload (i'm a network engineer, so I tried quite a bit) and nothing helps. Anyone out there seeing similar issues?

Didn't help, and now WW has stopped responding :/

Yeah I know.. Westwood has lost my respect totaly with that reply to you and my explanation as to why they should try to help you..

Heck, this thread is the only reason I'm here.. Maybe I should just leave and let them solve all the crap on their own in this thread..

I'll have one last thing I can look into, but after that I'm lost in your problem :(

I will seriously thinmk about leaving and will definately mail them about it..

evil_muff1n, it seems that EBFD runs, but the graphics are terrible..

The first funny thing I noticed is that this is the second HP pavilion running XP that doesn't run EBFD.

Just to be sure: have you tried running EBFD in compatibility mode ? Also, your desktop resolution is set to 1024x768 32. Try setting it to 800x600 16 and the same forthe ingame settings. Also, make sure you have turned shadows off in the game.

Last, but not least, make sure you've updated your drivers. Close all background programs you have running.

Keep me updated !

btw, you're output of the EASy file is screwed up due to the fact you're running Windows XP..

this topic has been around since about when the game came out, or year after i dont remeber, so why not just think that in about 1 year we got every issue and every possible way to lockup?

I think we've already had almost al problems in here.. To bad we can't rely on Westwood tech support. I know I've defended them, but what they did to Radar is unbelievable..

The guy has been patiently waiting since November 2001 to get his prob fixed.. he then decides to switch to XP (cause no reply of Westwood).. He now can get into the game, but still suffers a problem.. He goes back to tech support and yes, they reply.. "Sorry sir, we can't help you, cause you have XP".. (and still he's waiting patiently, without bashing or flaming Westwood)..

The lowest and lamest excuse ever Westwood !!

Moebius, try posting your EASy output here (if you're running Windows 9X/ME that is).

Or at least your dxdiag output..

I'll try and help you :)

I'll think twice next time before buying a game from WestWood/EA. Not because it's a good game, but because it might contain serious bugs which their own departement who made the game can fix, but doesn't bother too :/

cmurphy39, looking at your specs, it seems you have a 3dfx card. If so, which one ?

The error you're getting is due to incompatibility between the drivers and directx. Try the following things:

1) update your drivers (video and soundcard).

2) when 1 is done, make sure you reinstall directx.

3) If the game still doesn't run, try an older version of your video card drivers. If they're not on your card manufacturers site, there are a few sites listed on the following webpage: www.xs4all.nl/~sascho (under "general issues").

4) the following options behind the games shortcut: -c +w

Keep me updated on how things go..

cmurphy39, also try to close down all the background programs you have running. It might give give you extra speed..

press ctrl-alt-delete once. Close all programs, except for "systray" & "explorer".

Radar, just for the fun of it, just check the Renegade boards on the problems there.. Especially with tech support..

I'm currently working on a plan for a business of my own. It involves me starting my own game shop. It will have all the games you want and there is even a setup where you're able to try games before you buy them (on computers provided, or you can bring your own system !). If all goes well, I also am planning to setup a help center where users who bought a game can turn to for help. I'm planning it to be an official help center, with the support of game manufacturers. These are just plans that exist in my head for now, cause before I an pull that off, I need to get fired at my current job first (has to do with social security here in Holland. If they fire me, I'll get paid by the gouvernment :))

I fixed the problem late last night. To asnwer your question, I have a Maxi Gamer Phoenix (as listed in the report) which uses Voodoo Banshee drivers made by Guillemot (now Hurcules). I went to http://www.voodoofiles.com/3dfxhelp.asp and downloaded the FULL Banshee driver pack (net download) and had it automatically install. I had changed my settings to all the things listed on this site, to no avail. Once the new driver was installed, I set everything back to my original setting (maxxing out everything) and got rid of the -c+w in the command line and the game worked flawlessly. If anyone else out there have a Voodoo card, let them know to try the generic 3dfx or Voodoo drivers, not the ones provided by their manufacturer. Of course, this only applies if they are having problem. Also, I went through some of the coding the Westwood did on the game and it looks like they have hired some amatuers or they had to release the game before they were technically finished with it. It's a great game, and the patch has fixed a lot of things, but I really think they need to invest some resourses in tech support.
