Cyborg Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Yeah I hope they don't ;).Making fun of doughnuts would offend every american police officer in here too...
SurlyPIG Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Yeah dude you're one step away from dissing our beer. Watch the movie "Canadian Bacon" to know learn what happens to those who insult Canadian beer...
Timenn Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 At least it is not American bear. You know the comparison between American bear and making love in a canoo...[hide]It is both f*cking close to water - MP[/hide]
Terror Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 I have live in the Netherlands as well, and have been twice in the US (1993 and 1998) and seen the entire east coast of the US, from Miami to New York and up to canada.Timenn has provided quite a bit of info about the netherlands, and if you wonder if we all walk on wooden shoes, that's not so for a quite a time. Compared to US people we are often a bit taller (Netherlands and Norway have the tallest people in the world, they share 1st place) and people, especially youth from the US are often fatter. Even though quite a few people from the Netherlands are overweighed as well, it's not as bad as in the US. Compared to the US most things are smaller here, houses however over here are almost all made of brick, whereas in the US most houses are made of wood. Temperature is approximately between -10 degrees celcius and 35 degrees celcius. 1 family has less cars in the Netherlands, however cuz the land is so dense populated there are still seem to as many cars as in the US.well that's it for the moment, maybe i'll think of something more later on
Dude_Doc Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 SwedenQ: Whats a typical day like?A: Boring. Same old school, same old town, same old bums in the subway, same o... -5 min later- ...same old town, oh, I've already said that. Q: A family occasion/Holiday?A: Yes, we travel to Thailand, next time I go will be my 15th or something, trust me, I know Phuket in my head.Q: TemperatureA: Yes, we have one too. In summer, it can reach about 40 degrees, and in winter maximum (very rare), minus 10 degrees. Actually, we don't have much of a winter left. Last year it snowed like two weeks totally, counting each day. They even show, on TV, the best ways of preventing the global warming as much as possible. Q: School/Work?A: Nothing special. I go to school to learn and study. My future is probably media, movie director. I hope so anyways.Q: GovernmentA: Not of a much freedom. They even got a proposal to shut down night pubs... and guess what, our government took it seriously. Then there are the usual nordic-socialist government: they take the tax-payers money and gives them to the poor, so that the poor and the people without work votes on them again. Pretty sh_tty, because we need a right-wing party to build appartments IN TOWN! Oh, you will never ever see appartments higher than 10 floors. If you do, please tell me what drug you're on. Q: CurrencyA: The swedish crowns (kronor). We will probably change to Dominion (EU) currency in 2005 or 2006. Final word: May be a fine country, but I'd rather live in the US (interesting stuff: the total time in my whole life I've spent in the US is one month, in Miami). If you just want to live not a special life, be a doctor or some local staff, well, fine, this will suit you well. But if you want to try your destiny, then US will suit you best.:P
emprworm Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 interesting, Dude. I learned some things about sweden. thx for that post.
nemafakei Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 In Britain, things are generally more expensive (An American friend noted to me that a 'Dime Bar' costs 27p (US$0.45) here). Income tax is high, as is tax on alcohol and tobacco; but we get free healthcare and other similar benifits. It's wet, but it rarely snows. And when it does, it is either icy or slushy for twice as many days.
Cyborg Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 we get free healthcare in norway too.But a frikkin macdonald bigmac menu cost similar to
nemafakei Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Good. That means you're healthier than in the US.
Cyborg Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Yeah. I eat at macdonalds like three times a year max!We don't eat too much fastfood here because it's so very expensive.I live in Bergen, a fishcity deluxe(we have a big harbour here and it's full of fishboats). A cod in the market cost
Edric O Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Then there are the usual nordic-socialist government: they take the tax-payers money and gives them to the poorI'm beginning to like that place already. I know some countries who should take lessons from Sweden...
Cyborg Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Well the government in norway get criticised as hell because about 10% of the inhabitants of norway can't handle a suddenly bill of
Elite47 Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 Then there are the usual nordic-socialist government: they take the tax-payers money and gives them to the poorI'm beginning to like that place already. I know some countries who should take lessons from Sweden...Yes use my familys/friends Hard earned money and give it to someone for free who didnt do anything for it ::) the poor only deserve what they put effort into IMO. Maybe this only applies in America(i know in other countries it is harder to live everyday), but bums/homeless ppl do nothing to earn money so why should they get it for free? they're getting paid to drop out of school and live on the streets? HORSESHIT. And it makes it 100x worse that the only reason the Norwegian government would do that is to get votes. A homeless person to me= a dogDogs beg for your food when they have a full bowl of kibbles 'n bits, Go eat your damn dog food! --> Bums beg for your money and support when they are right across the street from the mini mart that is hiring, go get a damn job!
emprworm Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Then there are the usual nordic-socialist government: they take the tax-payers money and gives them to the poorI'm beginning to like that place already. I know some countries who should take lessons from Sweden...lol, edric, you forgot the second part of his quote:"so that the poor and the people without work votes on them again."
Edric O Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 A homeless person to me= a dogYou are a pathetic excuse for a human being. Perhaps if you were born on the streets and never stood a chance in life, you'd think differently. But as I can see right now, you only deserve my contempt. You should be the one living on the streets, and a homeless person should have your job. That might teach you a valuable lesson. Or maybe you'd still dwell in the same pit of inhumanity that you feel so comfortable in right now.
Edric O Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Weren't you the one to say that a good deed is a good deed regardless of the motive, Emprworm?
emprworm Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 i think what GZA was saying is that homeless people in America are (frequently, but not all)...destitute by choice- they are too lazy to muster up the responsibility and discipline to work a part time or low wage job that would at least give them a place to live. Its not like there are no jobs for them
Edric O Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 i think what GZA was saying is that homeless people in America are (frequently, but not all)...destitute by choice- they are too lazy to muster up the responsibility and discipline to work a part time or low wage job that would at least give them a place to live. Its not like there are no jobs for them?.they just don?t care about working. That is no excuse for calling them dogs. And it's not even half true - Tell me, would ANYONE hire a homeless person? What jobs, exactly, can they take?
Elite47 Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 i think what GZA was saying is that homeless people in America are (frequently, but not all)...destitute by choice- they are too lazy to muster up the responsibility and discipline to work a part time or low wage job that would at least give them a place to live. Its not like there are no jobs for them?.they just don?t care about working. That is no excuse for calling them dogs. And it's not even half true - Tell me, would ANYONE hire a homeless person? What jobs, exactly, can they take? That is *EXACTLY* what I was saying empr. i did not call them dogs i was making an analogy. <<A bum is to begging for money as a dog is to begging for food.>> They couldve went to school! if they didnt they could work at 7-eleven, mcdonalds u name it you can eventually land a job somewhere. Then he could pay for schooling with his job to earn more money. I know this for certain in America.YOU CAN ONLY GET BACK AS MUCH AS YOU PUT IN[hide]Unless you're lucky ;] [/hide]
Edric O Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 That analogy of yours was deeply insulting, uncalled for, and demeaning. All human beings should be treated with respect. They couldve went to school! And if they were born on the streets, which school would accept them? ::)At most they can go to poor, miserable community state schools, while the kids of rich capitalists enjoy the benefits of an elite expensive education. As for getting a job, who would hire them?? They didn't get a good education because they couldn't afford it. They are dirty because they never had a home. They are lacking in social skills because people always mistreated them.In short, they are doomed to a life of misery.
The_Sadukar Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 And Edric scores :Dcurrently the score is Socialists: 2Capitalsits: -2Good jod sorting that one out Edric, may the blessings of Order fall upon you!

Dude_Doc Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 There is always a chance, Edric. Each day when I take the sub for school, I see those bums sitting there and drinking. Drinking alcohol. We do have homes for the poor. If they have the will and the strenght, they can get a job. We have had this left-wing party since Marx first toutched a pen, and still, we somehow get an increasement of homelsess people! And, so they increase the tax on appartments and etc. Where is this going? And believe me, it is not only the homeless, but also immigrants that are dragging the country down. I see it with my own eyes each day for 8 years now, how they just slap trough school, only to become poor and gansters. One of my friends dropped from school because "he didn't want to" and "I couldn't take it anymore". What is that for an excuse? So, what do you think he does now? That's right, he smoke weed, and works in some boat-shop, earning money only for food. I even hear from friends that he buys drugs and every other negative stuff. And what friends does he have now? Friends that are thieves, thieves becasue they dropped out of school and started to steal from people. They steal from people because they can't get jobs and they can't get money in some other way, except stealing and recieving MY money that the left-wing party take from me! Is that how I want a country to be ruled? Oh, and why not retire 1000 cops for when you're on it? I'm saying that the left-wing party gives people another chance, and yes, I agree that is a good thing. But people do not only get that one chance, they get hundreds. Still, we don't have any improvement. So why do I have to pay for that? If they set limits, people will start to think. People will start to do what they are supposed to do in school. Maybe a left-wing party do work, but only if everyone accepts it, and everyone are willing to work hard KNOWING that their hard earned money gives another person a home, a job, and money to live his or her life for. As it is now, I only throw away money to people who are willing to waste them on drugs instead of trying to live a life and do some good for the community.
quoudam72 Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Timenn that was just too funny. One of the best I heard all day.
Edric O Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 I understand you had a bad experience with a few homeless people, and I don't deny that some of them are exactly how you described. But to generalize this stereotype to ALL of them is beyond absurd. And even with the money they get from the government, they are still living far worse than anyone else. So, naturally, they WILL do everything in their power to get a better life. IF they can...There are also those who don't WANT a better life, but they are mostly drug addicts like the person you mentioned. And it is unfair to punish the others for the actions of these few.
