I like the Harkonnen Trooper, and the Sardaukar units, and the Minor House units, but I'm not too keen on the Atreides Trooper.  He looks too much like some wierd gladiator or something.

The who and the what now? :O

Heh. I *THINK* you're refering to (tell me if I'm incorrect) the Atriedes Soldier's outfit. The green fatiuges? This guy? http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/skinAS1.jpg

Don't worry, he's still there. That's the Atreides Soldier's skin, where as the "gladiator" like one is the Atreides Trooper's skin.

About the HA Trooper: I know it looks pretty.. gladiator-like, but it's looks were intentional. I won't attempt to subject you to the inner workings of my mind, as that would be cruel and unusual, but basically, I was going for something that would represent how i precieved the HA House Troopers: Fanatical to start with, dangerous as hell, tough as a brick sh!t house, and massively muscular too boot. As a result, I was actually going for more of a "sci-fi" barbarian look. Where as the other troopers have fairly heavy armor, this skin doesn't display too much armor at all, but the player still retains the same resistances, weight, and ability to shrug off attacks pretty well. This would normally be counter intuitive to someone not heavily armored as the other Troopers are, and as a result makes you (if you're the victim) to think twice, and maybe panic; much the same result that I went for with the Corrino Sardaukar skin, but along a different path (theirs is more along the lines of a "Oh sh!t oh sh!t! Run away!" in part because you already KNOW what a sardaukar can do).

And chances are, none of that helps at all

I'm running a little low on time, but I thought I'd get these screenshots out to all of you.

These are the last batch of skins that we did for the mod. I am, right now, putting the skins and the rest of the clientpack togeather, and getting it ready for download, so everyone can play with the skins and the other client-side (download necessary) enhacements.

As I said, I'm running a bit low on time, so I won't bother to do the commentary for each one... which I'm sure just makes everyone really sad :P. But I will give a quick informal description for each one.

The Fremen/Fedaykin armors arn't the best in the package. But they're scary enough when they start ambushing you, and the last thing you see is their ibad eyes...

<A HREF="http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/sshot0038.jpg">Fremen protecting an inner portion of his Sietch.</A>

<A HREF="http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/sshot0044.jpg">Fedaykin on the sand, issuing a challenge.</A>

The Ixian soldier turned out really well. I based it off of the Infanty depicted in the manual and one of the covers of the Dune2 game. Probably my favorite next to the Corrino Sardaukar skin.

<A HREF="http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/sshot0045.jpg">Ixian soldier at guard, with rifle lasgun in hand.</A>

BT soldier turned out pretty well. The Tleilaxu Eyes of course the drawing point :P

BT Face Dancer. I expect a lot of people are going to dislike what I finally decided to do for them. However... this is a face dancer in it's natural state, before he's changed. How often are they seen like this? Every? I needed something however, and thought that this worked well, especially to hide them long enough to get an ambush out.

<A HREF="http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/sshot0054.jpg">Face Dancer hiding... can you see him?</A>

<A HREF="http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/sshot0055.jpg">Face dancer hiding. You should be able to find him now that you're looking for him.</A>

<A HREF="http://www.planettribes.com/daf/DAFOriginalDownloads/sshot0063.jpg">Here's the premise of this shot. You're the Face Dancer, and after laying a trap of bodies for the enemy to investigate, you've just snuck up, and snapped the ixian soldier's neck. Insta-kill. All you've got to do now.. is assume his form and infiltrate their organization.</A>

For those of you that play. Head to the main page (same as above) and download the DUNE clientpack.

If possible, you should make up a simple FAQ of how to find and login to your server when it is up, because I do not know what to look for in the server page in tribes game.

Having teams playing it would be awesome! Maybe a tournament or something :)

Very nice.  I like the Ixian emblem on the floor.  Looks really neat.

The Face Dancer is nice.  I like the short hair, and greyish skin tone.  Can't say I'm too fond of the red eyes, though.

Hrm a FAQ. Well, basically refresh the server list every time, then organize the list by either "Server Type" and look for "DUNE base", organize it by "Server Name" and look for "House Corrino" or organize it by "Mission Type" and look for any mission starting with "Dune_" or "DUNE_". They should end up all pointing to the same server at this point. Down the road, you'll want to organize by server type or mission type, as hopefully there will be multiple servers under different names.

To organize a list, press the top of the column.

On a side note, setting my server to "Favorite" won't work properly. I currently have a networking problem, where the server is assigned a random port number. As a result, the port changes every time the server is restarted. So if the server crashes, or you come on the next day, it won't be under the same entry as it will before. The best way to find it again is to refresh the list.

As for the teams, we're currently attempting to slowly build up the number of players in each House. I say slowly, because we have a fairly low consistant player base. It is a complex game, as any game based off the books are going to be, which tends to deter most people that know nothing about the universe. Currently, we have ~3+ people in House Atreides, 3 in House Corrino, 1 or 2 in House Harkonnen, 1 or 2 in Bene Tleilaxu, and I believe the Ixians are empty of players again. There have been no other minor houses that have formed.

The HTML markups was just.. a copy and paste from the main Screen Shots page. I had forgotten that I didn't need/could put in html links for the links, so I just didn't remove them. My intention was simply to provide the links :).

Well seeing as J hasn't posted in a while, I figured I'd take over.

I'm Agent, current leader of House Harkonnen in the tribes dune mod, and while im sure most of you are all happy about being fremen in dune, im here to tell of the harsh reality: fremen = target practice, the simple fact that they dont wear shields mean that they will be killed time and time again, in fact, so much so the leader of house atreides quit.. or at least stopped playing.

I will answer questions about the mod or HH to the best of my ability, i also have developed a recruitment ad i hope to be most effective in lureing thouse simpathetic to the harkonnen cause so we may rule arrakis once and for all.

House Harkonnen is looking for able-bodied men and women to fight House Atrades:

Requirements include:

A basic knowlage about the physics of the dune universe.

The willingness to throw somone out of a 3rd story window to watch then squirm on the way down

Enough dicipline to fire a lasgun without causing an atomic explosion.

Being part of this illustrious team is not without rewards!

Benifits Include:

Economic Clout: Yes, we CAN afford that groundcar squadron!

"Creative" Command Structure: we sopport troopers with the knack to "relieve" a commanding officer

Need I forget: Pleasure Houses! 5 Star treatment for a 1 star price!

Dont Delay! Contact your local recruitment agency today!

(House Harkonnen not responcible for loss of limb, life, and or any illness.)

Hmm... Seeing as how Agent decided to show his ugly face, perhaps I should put in a blurb for House Corrino.

As you all undoubtably know... House Corrino is the single most powerful house of all. Boasting Sardaukar in large numbers, with Bashar and Burseg leading the way, few can stand in our way. All House Corrino armor is fire resistant, and all soldiers boast the powerful and deadly saber in hand. And you need money? No problem! House Corrino funds rarely run dry. So you can either work for the *cough* crackpot *cough* Agent... or come to the Emperor and save us the trouble of killing you...

Flame on **Evil Laughter**  >:(

What Mr. Diddily fails to realize is that monetary-wise House Corrino is a little behind House Harkonnen in economic clout. Sarduakar can be bought after all.

At least magnus hasnt decided to show up.

Just wanted to let everyone (that is interested) know, that I've placed the server source for the mod up for download on my server. This will be especially adventagious for those of you that are non-canadian/american that haven't been able to find a server up because of conflicting time zones. Now, hopefully, there will be enough servers up for long enough periods of time, that you'll have no trouble finding them. Or, if not, you'll always be able to host your own server with the mod.

In addition, i've placed for download MapPack1, which anyone running a server will want to download as well (so you have maps to play on).

If you find any problems with the mod (bugs I mean) feel free to email me at deathknight@hush.com to report them, or post them in the forum on the main site. As the bugs build up, I'll reissue updated source code.

Announcing the grand release of the DUNE Night Attack Campaign!

The NightAttack campaign places you on either the side of House Atriedes, or House Harkonnen, during the night in which House Harkonnen launched their major offensive against Arrakis and House Atreides. The campaign takes place in Arrakeen, and takes place over four separate missions. Details of the campaign are straight from the book.

In short, for HA to win the campaign, they need only push the Harkonnen forces back to the Starport, and defeat them there. For HH, they must use their Sardaukar and explosive artillary to defeat every mission in the campaign, and finish off the Atreides forces to win.

Think *YOU* can do a better job defending Arrakeen? Proove it! Care to try attacking the most defendable city on the planet? Go ahead and try!

I hope to have some Screenshots up soon; the more players I have testing the campaign, the better/sooner the screenshots! :P

You can download the NightAttack campaign on the main DUNE-Tribes website, www.jmods.bravepages.com/DUNE.html

Just follow the link to DUNE_NightAttack campaign, and download from one of the download links there.

Need tribes? It's *FREE* (yep, free. All you need to play the *only* DUNE FPS in existance, is an internet connection.) for download at http://www.sierra.com/file_list.do?gamePlatformId=286

In-game Objectives/Description are as follows:

*Mission 1*

Location - Planet Arrakis; Arrakeen Starport in Arrakeen City. Early morning.

Briefing:

In orbit lie more then two thousand House Harkonnen war ships. House Atreides knows nothing of their presence. The targets of the invasion have been selected with a preciseness dedicated to supurb intel.

At High Command's signel, the attack begins. By morning, House Atreides will no longer exist. House Harkonnen's vast wealth has seen to the transportation of it's entire armed forces, as well as 10 legions of Sardaukar.

The main focus of the attack--5 full legions--is focused at Arrakeen, where the Duke and his royal family await unknown destruction. To win, the starport must be secured, the city neutralized, the Palace captured, and all enemies destroyed.

House Harkonnen has suprise on their side. The current objective is to secure the Arrakeen Starport to enable the safe drop of the full five legions.

To complete this objective, Imperial Sardaukar have been hidden among their forces to quickly overwhelm the enemy. In addition, a shipment of Lasguns were sent earlier, and will no doubt still be sitting in the storage yards.

Quick capture of the Communications and Watch Towers will provide a valuable waypoint for further forces to pound the enemy, as well as allow the drop of the Baron's secret weapon: Ground Cars mounted with explosive artillary.

House Atreides has little time to prepare. The enemy ships have entered the atmosphere and will begin arriving at any time. They must secure and hold all critical positions at the starport against the comming attack.

Failure to hold the towers will result in a quick loss of the actual port, and reduce House Atreides' position to trapped locations of defense.

When the ships were first detected, alerts were sent to the Duke's position, and Arrakeen barracks. Even now reenforcements are on their way to help secure the Starport.

Once the reenforcements arrive--estimated time, 60 minutes--House Harkonnen will not be able to land safely, and will have to abandon their assult on Arrakeen.

Main Objective:

- To secure victory, and end the Attack on Arrakeen, House Atreides must hold out for 60 minutes until reenforcements arrive.

- House Harkonnen must capture all locations at the starport, to allow safe drop of the remaining forces, and quick entry into the Arrakeen city proper.

*Mission 2*

Location - Planet Arrakis; Centeral Arrakeen City. Early morning.

The two thousand orbital House Harkonnen war ships have begun their decent. Rapidly they flood into their designated targets. The targets of the invasion have been selected with a preciseness dedicated to supurb intel.

At High Command's signel, the attack has begun.

House Harkonnen's trap has been sprung, and the pieces have begun to quickly fall into place. Every moment invasion ships drop fresh battalions into the captured starport. The current objective is to secure the central Arrakeen City.

Capturing the centeral city proper will neutralize House Atreides' ability to launch a meaningful counter attack. Again, the Sardaukar fight hidden among House Harkonnen's forces with devistating results.

Capture of the barracks, will prevent solid counter offenses; capture of the main 'Thopter yard will eliminate air threat; capture of the Imperial Administrative building, will prevent any outgoing communications to friendly houses.

Most important of all, capture of the single existing enterence to the Palace grounds has been made possible by the sabatoge of the palacial shields. Ground cars, including the augmented artillary cars, have been provided from the star-port.

House Atreides must maintain a solid defense, and launch a successful counter attack on the starport terminal and customs. Air support and building cover will be critical to counter enemy ground cars.

Loss of either the defendable barracks, or the less defendable Palacial enterence will give House Harkonnen a solid position from which to assult the remaining city strongholds rapidly.

The Imperial Administrative building in the center of the city is already considered a loss for House Atreides. With no allies close enough to Arrakis to assist, and rumors of the Imperials supporting House Harkonnen,

all hope of external salvation is futile. Thus, the building can best be used only as a resupply point once a counter offensive has been organized.

Main Objective

- To secure victory, and end the Attack on Arrakeen, House Atreides must defend their current positions, and launch a successful counter attack against the enemy held starport customs and terminal.

- House Harkonnen must capture all enemy locations in the city, without being cut off from startport reenforcements. Once complete, the enemy's main forces in Arrakeen will be too disorganized to stop the assult on the Arrakeen Palace.

*Mission 3*

Location - Planet Arrakis; Centeral Arrakeen City. Early morning.

The two thousand orbital House Harkonnen war ships have begun their decent. Rapidly they flood into their designated targets. The targets of the invasion have been selected with a preciseness dedicated to supurb intel.

At High Command's signel, the attack has begun.

House Harkonnen's forces are everywhere; they flood into the startport, and they burn the city with impunity. The one place they do not control, is the remaining House Atreides' hold out: the Arrakeen Palace.

In a desparate bid to buy time for their Duke and his family, House Troopers have detonated the bridge spanning the defensive chasm which surrounds the palace. Little did they know, the same trechery that sabotaged the Palace Shields has

already orchistrated the demise of their ruling family. Although the destruction of the bridge has halted the advance of House Harkonnen's mobile artillary, suspensor boyed bridges have just been deployed across the chasm, which

will permit the assult on the palace by foot. With the Sardaukar reenforcements, there can be no possible chance for defeat. House Harkonnen must capture the palace, while defending the bridges so as to not be pushed back.

If the palace falls to House Harkonnen's forces, then there can be no hope for House Atreides. Arrakis will be theirs, and House Atreides resigned to a fate less active then a renegade House.

For House Atreides, things look bleek. Their Duke is missing, the city in enemy hands, and even the forces of the Emperor are against them. But at this palace they might be able to hold out and launch a counter attack... maybe.

Although they are pinched into a corner, they still have a few remaining powerful weapons at their disposal: reserve Ornithopters at the palace are available, as well as the best trained House Troopers, equipped with rapiers.

Main Objective

- To secure victory, and reverse the course of the war, House Atreides must defend the palace, find and defend their Duke, and resecure the enterence to the Palace Grounds.

- House Harkonnen must attack and capture all three wings of the Arrakeen Palace for victory. Once the palace is captured the only thing left to do, besides raping the planet for spice, will be to hunt down any of the fleeing enemy.

*Mission 4*

Location - Planet Arrakis; Shield wall caves outside of Arrakeen.

The two thousand orbital House Harkonnen war ships have landed. Their designated targets have been secured, and the defenders routed. The targets of the invasion were selected with a preciseness dedicated to supurb intel.

At High Command's signel, the attack defeated the enemy. By morning, House Atreides will no longer exist. House Harkonnen's vast wealth has seen to the transportation of it's entire armed forces, as well as 10 legions of Sardaukar.

The main focus of the attack--5 full legions--was focused at Arrakeen, where the Duke and his royal family awaited unknown destruction. To win, the starport must be secured, the city neutralized, the Palace captured, and all enemies destroyed.

Their assult successful, House Harkonnen's forces have taken control of Arrakeen proper, and secured the Palace; what's left of House Atreides' defending forces have retreated to a series of caves imbedded in the rim wall's

north side, just outside of Arrakeen. A fighting retreat, they're bloodied and broken, but not quite dead. Collected and regroupped in the cave, they've prepared to reassult the city and Palace in a last ditch effort to stop the attack.

Unfortunately, the caves enterences are few, and easilly attacked. Having planned for the enemy reatreat to the caves, House Harkonnen's artillary has been deployed outside to seal off the enterences, and finish off House Atreides.

Once all the cave enterences are sealed, the trapped House Atreides infantry will starve to death. Their last hope is to destroy all of House Harkonnen's artillary, and the small encampment set up to prevent their escape.

If this tall order can be filled, the ragged remaining forces just might be able to launch a counter-attack at the city. With the advantage of simplicity, House Harkonnen has only to seal their enemy's fate.

Main Objective

- To secure victory, and reverse the course of the war, House Atreides must prevent the destruction of the cave enterences, and destroy the enemy encampment in total, including all artillary.

- House Harkonnen must defend their encampment, and use the explosive artillary to collapse the enterences to the caves. Once all three caves are sealed, they will control Arrakis.

Installing Tribes now!

:)

Although I may not be able to play often as University is going to take up 99% of my life.

As for patching it, I just used the auto updater repeatedly until it could find no more updates. Then you know you are fully patched.

I think it would be cool if people of Fed2k started to play this and we could set up tournaments and such if enough people played.

It's completely free.

Since the game is so old, you can turn the graphics up some and not have to worry about it running slow. :)

I'm guessing the Server source means that anyone can host a Dune game?

EDIT - EW. First thing I did when I started the game was change the resolution to 800*600 and now the screen is flicking extremely. Guess I will have to reinstall and choose 1024*768. :( Any help?

EDIT - Nevermind, I played with some files so that I do not have to install it for the 3rd time and can now choose 800*600. If anyone has similiar problems contact me.

Posted

Yep, the server source allows you to host a DUNE server yourself. Which is good, since my server can only (usually) be up during afternoons and evenings, and usually late nights, using an eastern-standard time zone. A few more (truely) dedicated servers would probably help a lot of players, like those from Europe, out a lot.

And, if anyone wants help in setting up a server, email me and I'll see what I can do for you.

Posted

Quick question. Is it possible to get a screenshot of your server when people go to join multiplayer page?

Then I would know exactly what to look for.

What should I be looking for in the multiplayer page for your server?

EDIT - I played my first couple games.

The sandworm is awesome. You cant outrun it and so it will kill you if your not careful. :)

Big learning curve, especially if you have no Tribes experience. But well worth it!
