Emperor Harkonnen
I have just started reading Dune, and there Thufir said that Atreides was not among the wealtiest and richerst houses. I thought that they were a great house
el_d00d
they are a great house because they have their own Planet and have much influence in the Landsraad
Emperor Harkonnen
I heard that House Vernius was a great house, but the tleilaxu have captured their planet, so that means that they are not

Colonel_Worf
The atreides are a major house, but they do not overly tax their people are anything. They're just a big power that relies on loyalty and the people more than money.

Usul
Weak when they have two of the best fighters in the universe training their forces and one of the greatest mentats in the universe and have a fiercly loyal and disiplined military wich rivals that of the Sardukar. Nefud
Ix is the name of the planet and House Vernius is the ruler of it.HA is a Major House but not as wealthy as -for example- HH.They are the only one who have the secret of the weirding-modules and thats why the Emperor annihilates them... Nefud
I'm sorry to say but the Guild only had a problem with Paul. He was the black spot in their visions of the future. HA was a pain in the *ss for the Emperor because the Duke's fame in the Landsraad and his well-trained troops threatened the position of the Emperor. nemafakei
Ok, weirding modules were not the reason by the book. The reason was that Leto was turning into a leader of the Landsraad, and also that he had trained his troops to 'within a hairsbreadth of the sardaukar'. Paul only became relevant to the guild after the emperor's decision to send the atreides to arrakis - doing so created a nexus for the guild - in that when he would drink the water of life and so find a way of destroying and therefore controlling the spice - they could not see the future because paul controlled it.Therefore, when they learned that Shaddam IV was to eliminate the Atreides, the guild wanted to make sure that Paul did not survive.
