i will not rest til all Flashing Ads DIE!

I posted a thread about this earlier and no one ever bothered to answer my question so this weekend I got *soooooooooooooo* pissed off with having that MSN Messenger flashing Ad in my face all the time that I figured it out myself after doing research. Here are the instructions i used:

Tip: Getting rid of ads in MSN messenger

Find its default folder (search for Messenger). Open LINKS.TXT and clear its contents. When finished, save the file and pull up its properties from the Windows Explorer. Place a checkmark in the "Read-only" field.

On my computer the links.txt file was not in the same folder as my Messenger directory (C:ProgramFilesMessenger) but rather it was in a path like (C:WindowsTemplinks.txt) but after finding the file and following the instructions, that flashing Ad is no more! MSN Messenger shall never again violate my eyes with this heinous invasion of privacy and crime against humanity! And if Microsoft updates the code so this technique no longer works, I will go to the ends of the Earth to find out how to disable the NEW coding too!

EDIT: It now appears that the above-solution may not have eliminated my problem totally for the version of MSN Messenger that I am using at the moment but no matter, I *shall* stop it if it takes up ALL of my free time until I do! I shall also find out how to stop the ICQ flashings ads too.

Also, to stop Ads from flashing in your IE browser go to TOOLS>>>INTERNET OPTIONS>>>SECURITY>>>CUSTOM LEVEL>>>SECURITY SETTINGS>>>ACTIVEX CONTROL AND PLUGINS and *DISABLE* both RUN ACTIVEX CONTROLS AND PLUGINS and SCRIPT ACTIVEX CONTROLS MARKED SAFE FOR SCRIPTING.

If you do this, you will stop the vast majority of flashings Ads from raping your eyes by flashing on your computer constantly without YOUR permission. The only problem with this is that IE says: "your current security settings prevent activex from running on this page, as a result the page may not display correctly" . THIS is my next mission in the ongoing war to control our OWN computers. If none of you can tell me how to STOP IE from posting this message every time I try to load a Web Page with the ActiveX flashing-Ad enabler OFF, then I will research it on my own and post my results here when I find out how to do it.

DEATH TO ALL FLASHING ADS ON THE NET!

Or you could just use a browser that lets you block images from certain servers. Right clicking on an image and saying block images from this server seems like a much easier way to do that.

There are also a number of free IM programs that don't show ads and still allow you to use MSN.

i might try that trill thing some time

for now i just uninstalled MSN Messenger 4.6 and then re-installed MSN Mesesnger 3.6 --- I recommend everyone do this. there is no Ad columns all over the screen on 3.6 and there is no BS flashing Ad either. 3.6 is sooooooooooooo much better.

i need a permanent way to disable IE "warning messages" too. That ActiveX warning message is driving me absolutely nuts.

Yeah, Mozilla kicks. I use the K-Meleon build. Fast as the hare. Don't think it has that right-click blocking feature though. But that's ok because my firewall does anyway :D.
