His books are great...

I absolutely love his 'His Dark Materials' trilogy that started in another, magical world, and ends in a twirl of dimensions in time and space, including our own world. His books are even better than the Harry Potter series, and are most likely just as good as the Dune series. I wonder why he never became so famous?

I liked that series too. I don't think it's as good as Dune though. I would have liked him to write more.

I read the trilogy. I found the story to be somewhat entertaining, but his message is absolutely repulsive. It is nothing more than a glorification of atheism, for all the wrong reasons.

At least he can write good anti-religious pamphlets.

I can understand that, the message would be pretty repulsive to anyone with a religious background, and I'm not criticizing your view. But to an atheist it would be very interesting.

I don't think it's a reflection of his real views. But I would be willing to bet he isn't christian.

Big deal. Ok, so in this FICTIONAL story thats set in a different world where the church is evil. Whats gonna happen, gods gonna punish us all and send us to hell?

*Ahem*... Not only is the Church evil in his books (which actually happened a few times in history), but God Himself is evil. In ALL the alternate universes. That's what I find repulsive. And also the way he clearly and directly attacks Christianity near the end of the third book, for completely absurd reasons! Now, if he actually attacked it for good reasons, I wouldn't mind. But he seems to say that the only thing that matters is personal pleasure and enjoyment, and that morals only get in the way.

any god(s) will dominate mankind, use us as slaves to worship them, all that stuff about 'eternal life' and 'salvation' thats just public relations to lure more slaves into the fold.

May i say..this is a story, he's not publishing some scientific book on his views. Hell, he's probably a christian.

First of all, it doesn't matter what his beliefs are. I'm attacking the books and their message, not the person.

Second, I think he did say in some interview that he was an atheist...
