PS2 Games - Are they Burnable?

Recommended Posts

If I wanted to burn some PS2 games onto a CD-R disc, would that work? Would I need CloneCD or other special software, or is something as simple as EasyCD Creator good enough?

Would I then be able to play these backup copies in a PS2, or would it have to be modded?

And if it *would* have to be modded, then how does the PS2 detect the difference between the backup disc and the original disc?

I would think you need a special disk as PS2 uses specialized cd's. Even if you had that, software might not be compatible to burn it "right".

Who knows what PS2 does to its games to make them uncopyable.

Are you sure about that? PSX games are easy as pie to copy, I know that because my friends did it all the time. Just haven't had experience with PS2 games so I don't know if it's just as easy or not. If anyone with a PS2 could enlighten me, that would be most appreciated.

I've heard different things. Are you trying to burn to play on you PS@ like rent a game burn it return it? or are you trying to burn it to play off an emulator on your PC? I think Nero burning tool is used if your going to use an emulator.

on Sony discs that are burn proof you can draw a line on the CD with a magic marker and it messes it up so you can burn it.... my uncle told me... ;D

I was wondering about burning the PS2 games on my PC then playing them on a PS2 console. I can not confirm what you said because the Mods here might get their knickers in a twist though if something like that were to happen :) hence I am talking about backup copies 8)

But yes, the question is can I burn a backup copy of the PS2 game disc and play the backup on the PS2 console.

i think it is possible with the ps2. What I mean is i did it with my dreamcst, made back up copies of the game... only things is not all of disk would fit. So I would lose sound or sometimes end lvls and the game would lock up. So I'm guessing you would need a bigger storage size cd inorder to copy all of it.

I use a program called Direct Connect. You can go on it and do a search of ps2 burners and get a bunch of stuff. I promised my dad I would burn him some Jimn Croche cds, when i do that I'll look on DC and see what I can find.

Or you can check it out here.

I might be wrong but dont PS2 cd's have a completely different format? like DVD cds?

i sure hope not! we need an expert on this subject to comment. man where are all the PS2 owners? you guys who have a PS2 must have tried this

lol you guys are funny. to burn a ps2 game you need to get a special chip in you ps2 which is hard to do because you can screw your system up if you dont know what you are doing. if you want the chip go to tailand or hongkong.

Mod chips are EASYYYYYYYYYYYYY to find man. REAL easy to find. They were for the PSX anyhow. If the games are burnable I'm sure it'd be just as easy to get a Mod chip for PS2. But that is not my question.

Not all, but most ps2 games are on DVD. all psx games are on cd, but i'm not sure if they're normal cd's. But for ps2 you need dvd's i guess

are you *sure* about that, or just guessing? just because the drive can read DVD-ROMS that does *not* necessarily mean that the game discs are not in CD-ROM format.

i'm gonna do some research on this when i have time and post the real scoop because no one here seems to have been able to qualify his opinion thus far

not 100% sure, i'd guess it on a 80% so :-/ . i can ask a friend though, he has a ps 2 but he is currently not replying on msn so once i get i reply i will post the answer here. GL

You will need a mod chip for your PS2 as you do for a PSX. These can be obtained semi-legally by looking in the penny saver or the personal adds in the newspaper. I don't imagine it would be to easy to do it though....

On a different note, why would you play PS2 games when you could play PC games!?!?!!!! ;D And why would you want to burn a PS2 game either...planning on doing anything illegal...hmmm :O
