I just checked on the archives on several Dutch newspapers (I could post links but you wouldn't understand anything of it ;)). In the Netherlands catholic sex scandals have been covered up for years, and are seldomly uncovered.

In the US the bishops apolotise for the sex scandals, but the priests in question aren't severely punished, if punished at all.

I'll check on CNN now, and post a few links.

As every other institution, Church is composed by humans too. And humans aren't perfect. Corruption is a problem. But how would you corrupt a priest? For what? You can't pay for God's forgiving. No one corrupts to modify their preaching, what should be only problem. And if you think that some ideas were made for money, you can ignore them. You have a free will, Church just recommends how to live. Also, much of those who call themselves "children of God" don't live by Church's terms. As I said, you have a free will. It's hard to corrupt Church. Also it's nonsense.

For those children abuse, what can I say? "Don't adulter!" - Dt 5,18. There are some people sexually deviated on children, and is possible that some of them have entered Church's hierarchy. But I think that halo around these ONEs is too big for cause's negligibility. Every priest, who er...have intim contact with any other person, woman as child, should be banned to do preachery. At least for Roman-Catholic Church.

hmmmm... I guess you could say I'm searching. About the Communism/Socialism topic I'd like to say that if there was an actual true one it would probably be the best government. Everyone would be taking care of. You wouldn't even need money, hey that sounds familiar, like Star Trek. Where you do things for the good of humanity not for yourself.

Hey everyone should south park they cover alot of issues in that show, like religon and preists and hate crimes and sex education (just to name a few). Really it give you a whole different view on things.

I'm an Atheist. I believe in science. Religion has no relevance to me in my way of thinking. However, I do realize that scientific theories are fallable.

I couldn't have said it better myself; that's me.

Devious, you must see it's utopic. It won't be fair, if you'll work harder and have as much as lazy ones. Even God said in Bible, that we should enjoy fruit of our work (damn, I just can't find it where :( ). How would socialist solve that with their "system of equality"? Don't think that South Park, anyway it's a good serie, is philosophical manifest. Read some normal book and you'll have your own view on things.

In a socialist system, lazy people are NOT paid as much as hard-working ones! Everybody is paid according to how much (or hard) he/she works.

but, Edric, In Matt 20, Jesus tells us the parable of the workers in the vineyard.

(Matthew 20:1-16 ) "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. "About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' So they went. "He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing. About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, 'Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?' "'Because no one has hired us,' they answered. "He said to them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard.' "When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.' "The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 'These men who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.' "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?' "So the last will be first, and the first will be last."

All men worked just as hard. And some men worked much longer than others but all were paid the same because they agreed to work as such. The first men hired freely agreed to a set wage at 1 denarius, while the rest of the workers freely agreed to a non-set wage determined by the employer. The employer had the freedom to pay some workers a much higher hourly wage than other workers for the same labor. I dont see socialism here.

Actually, all men were given the same wage. That means equality...

But this is a bad example. The parable has NOTHING to do with actual economical practices. It's not about economy, for God's sake!

IMO, it's insane to base a country's economy on the Bible...

Posted

they were given the same pay, but not the same hourly wage. The guy hired in the last hour got ten times more per hour than the guys hired in the beginning. Similar to a typical capitalist business.

it's insane to base a country's economy on the Bible

Why? is not trying to base an economy on biblical principles a good thing?

Posted

Uh, no, that's not capitalist at all! A capitalist owner would never be that generous to the last-arrived workers.

For God's sake, Biblical principles have NOTHING to do with economy!!

Besides, Jesus was a socialist. He advocated equality.

lol. man thats funny. believe me edric, capitalism advocates equality. All men are created equal- the founding principle and primary REASON why people fled to America. Socialism teaches equality: all men an created equal government slaves

Capitalist equality: all men are created equal by God

Socialist: all men own nothing. government owns all

Capitalis: all men own the government. government owns nothing

Regardling socialism: i see no reason nor evidence that Jesus ever advocated anything of the sort.

"by their fruits you will know them"

What is the fruits of socialism? Atheistic governments filled with Christian persecution. This is proof, in my book, that the socialst form of government is evil.

No socialist government ever existed. The Leninist abominations were NOT socialism.

See The Revolution Betrayed by Leon Trotsky.

Capitalist equality: all men are created equal by God

Hahahahahahaha!! Are you saying the son of someone like Bill Gates has the same chances in life as the son of an unemployed drug addict?

It would be funny if it weren't so damn sad.

Does the USA look like a christian nation to you? All I see is how religion is being constantly attacked and chased out of all public places. Persecution isn't very far off. I agree that Europe is WORSE, but that's another matter...
