Good to see WSE is going in the right direction now. If they can get this working it will help the Emperor community greatly, the current ladder is a joke at the moment.

Well, like I allways said, WSE's intention was allways to make WWOL gaming more fun for the gaming community. Although WSE's "method" for helping the gaming community was controversial, you can see from my post that it DID get a response, and that response lead to positive change in WW gaming

Hmm this looks like good news :O! I have a couple of questions, though, and you seem to be well-versed in this subject so I might as well ask, if you don't mind.

First, westwood games are designed to be compatable only with WOL servers. Is this new WU a subdivision of a westwood server, or an independant server operated by WSE?

Second, who will decide who is a cheater and what is a cheat under WU? Will it be WSE staff or a WS official? If it's a WSE, in your opinion, are they competant enough to keep a completely unbiased perspective on any cheating that occurs in WU?

Third, what is WSE's incentive to create WU? Somehow I can't imagine people that hate cheating on a particular set of games so much that they would go to the lengths of building and meintaining their own environment for all eternity. I could be wrong, and if that's the case, what will happen to WU if these WSE people lose interest? I mean, mimicing WOL can't be an easy task. This isnt a half-life server were're talking about here.

Fourth, will they continue to run individual and clan tournaments? If so, then how will they run them? Will it be a mirror of the current WOL setup, (custom clans, quickmatch individuals, automatic reporting of wins/losses) or will the players report games themselves?

This almost seems too good to be true. Independant servers are exactly what games like E:BFD need.

To answer your questions:

The WU servers will be a server option just like gamespy is currently a server option on ww games now. Whether WU games will be on the WW ladder system or not is not currently known, that involves the extent of EA's support for the WU servers ;)

From what i have heard and seen, the servers will have code that automatically detects a multitude of cheats and hacks, and automatically ends the game, while notifying the server admins the ip and info of the person trying to use the cheat. In addition, the server will be maintained by admins that can patch and detect NEW cheats and hacks that are developed after exhisting cheaters are thwarted.

The server admins are a diverse group, basically the people that are coding and bringing up the servers. Some, if not most, are currently working for WSE. But i know there are others that are not from the WSE staff as well. From what i have seen Biase or Unbias banning doesn't enter into the equation, if you use a program that the server detects, it stops your game, and the admins are notified and will ban your account/ip (this may even be automatic). If someone trys a new program to cheat, the info will get to an admin, and a patch will be realeased soon after to end that cheat as well. You can see that the servers will need constant mainataining staff, and WU intends to have one.

The incentive for creating cheat free servers is one of gaming/gamers and also need. WU is being created cause WW dropped the ball in providing cheat free servers themselves, and rather than just complain like some game sites, these guys decided to do something about it. WU is also being created cause there's a large population of ww gamers that would like servers where they don't have to worry about cheating. The servers will be FREE, no cost to gamers, the costs of the servers, as well as profits for the WU staff, will be made through hosting and advertising, etc. WU's staff saw a need for cheat free servers and decided to fill it when they came up with a way where they can make a living as well as help the gaming community

It is a quite amazing concept i agree. And thats why WSE was so please when EA decided to compromise with them and help the WU servers. I'm sure EA sees profit in creating online cheat free gaming servers, and i bet that helped as well. And YES, this is exactly what EBFD would need. ;D

Thanks for taking the time to answer my Qs! This'll definately have my interest for a while. I can't wait to see it in action. The auto detection of trainers sounds awesome. I can't even count the number of times I've been swamping someone in RA2 and that bloody "Out of Sync Error!" message pops up. One time I actually swore out loud. I still have a couple of technical questions about their tournaments, so I think I'll head over to their forums right now.

Thnx for the heads up on this issue!

frodo, can i use my old account on the new server?

From what i have seen, WU will use your old account if they can synchronize with the WW ladders. If WU cannot synchronize with WW ladders, then it will be like gamespy, and you will have to make a new account

Frodo, is there a projected time of opening for WU?

It changes depending on who you talk to. I've been told within the year, i've also been told within A year. Depends on who you talk to. THey have bought a domain for a web site, so it can't be too far off ;D

Frodo is there a public page explaining things or a FAQ available? I want to do a news post and it would be nice if people could find out more without having to first create an account on their forums.

Curious, was Tiberian Sun made in 2000?

I notice on your screenshot it shows the date as being June 6 2002. But at the bottom the copyright date on either the game (which I assume it is) or the WU server is in the year 2000.

I will get back to you soon on that. THere ARE a few WU threads at WSE, but since the sites main page is under reconstruction there's no public "page". So let me see what i can find

I think the bottom is the copyright date on the game, the date in the text is definately for the server

Since 95% of the WOL Emperor community are cheaters it might be nice to play with the Warez community who play Emperor via WSE because I bet *they* are more honorable and less-rife with cheaters than the people who actually bought the game.

I put up the first submission, it was put in by Sh3llshock, and it's all emperor players.

Go to the blacklist forum if you want to view, reply, defend yourself in the thread. The info in the thread is just copied information from messages in this board though, with links to the game stats, etc. Nothing people here haven't seen before
