No... the reverse-engineering is decompiling to get to the source code. Modding is legal, as long as we avoid infringing on WW's intellectual property; since we only distribute a few ini files, which are useless to people without a copy of Emp, and we make no profit, we are not legally culpable. And we're probably doing them a service by getting the odd person interested in the game.

i cant find anything intellectual about WW giving up on the best RTS game even before it turned a year old. dman this is june its just now a year old ::) what was WW smoking to abandon it so long ago?

but back to topic (kinda) how do u reverse engineer something (like bill gates :O ;D)

so without reverse engineering it will be very hard to get the xbf viewer/editor... or does that have nothing to do with the price of rice in china?

To give a brief answer, the compiling methodes Micosoft uses for it's software arn't the same as used elsware with games or other [ non Win ] programms.

ie. having a de-compiler that can decompile Dune.exe and staroffice.exe will not be able to decompile Win.exe. [ file names are examples ]

Xbf files are data files, not code, so no de-compiling is involved. File format, data types and structures, and the data's functions (what the data is/for/does) are what needs to be figured out, and a lot of it has already been figured out.
