with some work it could be much better

But some players only like the real old games....openra is a very good game, but too modern for some gamers :)

With the database dump? There is nothing you can do really other than use it for research. It is a dump from the IDA Pro HexRays decompiler that produced pseudo C formatted code.

How did you re-create the dat file with the sub-houses fix?

How is it too modern? The gameplay mechanics are just like Dune 2 and they have the same graphics.

The low speed and the sluggish response when selecting stuff of openra kills me. Dune2k would still be a better idea, if it could be more moddable. So far OpenD2k is good, but can't match d2k, not even by a half.

considering its open source , anyone could change it. Whether by submitting changes to the main repo or creating a fork, Open D2K has much more potential then the original game.

but orginal game  can be challenging if we just  find out  what  holds it together.  coding isnt that hard   knowing dat file structure  might be  handy.

how units are stored in dat file,  do they have fixed  id  or its random?

if is it fixed numbers  and they are growing/decreasing with evry unit  will adding new line   work?

there must be some shortcut for this

No offence, but you don't know anything about decompiling programs and shouldn't speak as if you do (that goes to a lot of people in this thread). It's not a task to be taken lightly, especially since we barely know how the game works in the first place. Open d2k has a significant advantage in this regard as we have access to the source code, which allows us the make any changes and tweaks we want.

Ok, and who's gonna tweak and make desired changes to the Open D2k engine?
