For someone well versed in the Tanakh, tell me purger what do Jews believe in ...in terms of a Messiah or the Future.  Are Jews still waiting for a Messiah...in the form of a man?  Do Jews believe the world will go on forever as we know it?  I certainly wouldnt want to misunderstand someone i am conversing with.

Prophecies

Fulfilled by

Jesus Christ, Messiah

ALL of these prophesies were made hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years before Jesus Christ was born. Looking in the face of how He literally fulfilled them all (plus hundreds more), it is an impossibility that He is not Messiah, Saviour of the world. The ONLY person...past, present or future...who could fulfill all these prophecies is Jesus Christ. See His genealogy starting from faithful Abraham.

Btw,  Thanks for your Jewish interpretation of Messiah, its helps me understand what Jews think and why.  Understanding someone is always good.  Judaism isnt something that is discussed alot on these boards, so hopefully this discussion can continue here or in another thread. Atleast now i have something else to research aside from "christianity vs islam".

Taking fragments of sentences, and sentences out of context does not make them prophecies.  You are saying he fulfilled prophecies that weren't prophecies.  The no broken bones stuff is how to sacrifice during passover, and was a law, not a prochecy.  This is just one of many.  The whole book of Isaiah is about Israel, G-d's servant, G-d's son, it says so all through the entire book.

The criteria for messiah was outlined above.  It is irrelevent that Jesus was written - again by a man who started preaching 20 years after the death of Jesus - to have done things that were written to describe things as they happened in the Tanakh.

Calling them prophecies and saying Jesus fulfilled them is ridiculous.  To be the messiah he had to fulfill the criteria of the messiah, and he didn't.  It still hasn't been done.  It's ignoring the fact that he didn't fulfill the criteria of the Jewish messiah.  It's nice that he did some things that other people in the Tanakh did before him, but nobody said applying things like sacrifices for animals to a future man it never implied was a prophecy.  Sacrificing humans is forbidden.  The Jews would have stoned him.  Crucifiction was a Roman punishment.

With the type of logic the thing you posted uses, this is also possible:

A Chassidic Rabbi Makes a Startling Discovery

My name is Moshe and I am a Chassidic Jew who has, from my youth, learned the words of our Holy Prophets, and has been puzzled by their meaning. Then, on the day before Yom Kippur, I contemplated the solemnity of the day and was made aware of the amazing meaning of G-d

Well, if you are so familiar with the Old Testament, Purge, then you may know that a hebrew widow went to her brother in law after husband's death. Thus it was possible for Joseph to have two fathers, one genetical and one legal. Altough in my own opinion, Joseph's ancestors knew only David as they were proud on him...while both gospels were written at least a half-century after Joseph's death, so to expect accuracy would be the same as to say that the world is 6 thousand years old and that Adam himself lived for 8 centuries  ::)

That's the turning point between orthodoxa and catholicism, in the original sense of words; one searches for differences between the sects, the other for common points. Altough today we hear even oxymorons like "orthodox catholics" daily, and in fact the Church didn't always behave so open as today.

Btw, next time do not flood the sticked topic, especially if you don't introduce others to the good and evil. I think you both present clear views, and it doesn't need pasting whole webpages, look for FAQ if you want to make a hyperlink.

Luke and Matthew wrote the same exact geneologies from differing points of view.

And the fact is the Jesus fulfilled every Old Testament prophecy that he was meant to fulfill.

And another thing...if Jesus was not the Messiah then He did not come back from the dead.

So why did His followers, cowards all of them, suddenly go from denying Him to proclaiming Him in the streets?

The posts didn't bother me at all when I had to check fed2k on my uncles 56k.

Purge, could you put in a few points which prophecies were not respected? I already read a few comments from Jews disagreeing with Jesus being the Messiah, but I disagreed a bit too easily and you might have more.

oxymorons like "orthodox catholics" daily,

Orthodox Catholic isn't an oxymoron. It refers to the unified church that existed before the mutual excommunication. I have never seen the term used as meaning something else.

Also muslims were united until the fitna in 656, however you cannot talk about "sunno-shia community" when referring to it. And as the difference between original `Ali's and 'Umayyad branches were originally purely political, same was also with the relations between the bishop of Rome and patriarch of Greeks. Like today between Moscow and Istanbul, could be said within orthodox christianity; I doubt historians will call it once a "greco-russian church".

That's a flawed analogy.

The Roman pre-schism church was catholic ("universal") and it was the "orthodox" version of christianity, in the eyes of the Romans east and west. After the schism the terms catholic and orthodox started being used seperately to differentiate between the two seperated churches.

On the other hand, AFAIK the terms "sunni" and "shia" were terms invented to differentiate between the schismatic sects of Islam. Before the Islamic schism we can simply speak of the Islam, while prior to the Catholic/Orthodox schism there was a multitude of different christian sects.

Grecco-Russian church sounds weird (moreso because it has more branches then Greek and Russian) but it isn't all that innaccurate. Afterall they're in communion with eachother, they just have autonomous patriarchs.

Catholicism teaches a communion between all christians as well; practically, for many catholics is it of no problem to participate on an orthodox or protestant mass (in this I'm personally a fanatic who has no problem to go into a mosque, but I don't want to tell this about all ;) ), catholic law accepts baptism of most churches as well. As the excommunication between Greece and Rome was lifted up already, we can't speak about a legal 'borders' of catholicism (or orthodoxa) within christianity now. What remains are the political and philosophical terms, which are mutually exclusive. Either you take strict tradition or interpretation; the sunna or imam.

It's the meaning, which is important, not the use, which is bordered only by human phantasy ;)
